legendary
simply one of the greatest albums of all time (next to Blue Nile - Hats of course)
Yeah its good
Good taste, may I recommend The Lover Speaks
interesting. ill peep it. always trying to find some more weirdo new wave / sophisti-pop. have you heard It's Immaterial - Song? same producer from The Blue Nile, same studio, and more or less the same tone as Hats
also this album rules a lot too. just tough that a lot of these neat 80s acts only exist on youtube or bootleg rips
The Painted Word - Lovelife
youtube.com
I heard Life's Hard And Then You Die and it didnt grab me, maybe Song is better
yeah that ones not as good. Song was his Blue Nile worship and it works really well. def same listening setting as Hats
Very nice
Wild hor-ses - I want to have...
I was listening to this indie guy and this one song has very strong Blue Nile influence
.
wow this is really nice. digging the organic instruments mixed with the skittery production. definitely gonna check the album
>album is called steve mcqueen
>get a triumph for the photo, his preferred brand
based lads
this is cool thank you
i thought this was too cheesy for me, i found it via RYM's "esoteric" feature and i just can't get into the vocals idk
you may have recommended The Lover Speaks before because it's in my youtube history apparently lol, i'll give it a listen this time around
Hats and Jordan are the two best in the genre imo, Steve McQueen gets #3
theres a SUPER fine line in 80s music where its either really timeless or supremely dated. and a lot of niche bands tiptoe on it without completely falling off. i listened thru that Painted Word record again and its definitely on the dated side lmao
interesting you put Jordan up top. i need to revisit it too because i was always put off by how massive it is. Steve McQueen is in my top 10 fav records ever though
another one i got into this winter was Thomas Dolby - Flat Earth. a lot of its a bit too new-age-y, but the title track is so goddam good
Thomas Dolby has been on my list, given he produced so many good albums there's gotta be something there. i'll check that track! & yeah I feel like Steve McQueen has higher highs but Jordan is the better album on the whole. maybe it's just personal for me though, i would drive to Jordan
Others that hold up for me, just in case anyone was looking for more recs:
Deacon Blue's first two albums, a little more pop rock but they certainly loved Prefab Sprout
Swing Out Sister, basically the whole discography is great, love the 80s poppy stuff
Danny Wilson has some amazing tunes, check out "I Was Wrong" or the hit "Mary's Prayer". the albums are hit-or-miss on the whole, sadly. YMMV
Standing on
the boulevard
I've always known your name
You're the ice maiden
deacon blue and swing out sister are a ton of fun. def will check out danny wilson
and for anyone else in the thread who has done it yet, make the Sade plunge. Diamond Life rules soooooo hard
IN THE BEGINNING WAS A MIGHTY BANG
WHEN THE SHOCKWAVE SPREAD AND THE HEAVENS RANG
FROM THE START THE WORLD WAS VIOLENT
MAN ASKED WHY BUT THE SKY WAS SILENT
