reminder that rock is the 2nd most streamed genre of music. how is rock music dead when it is the 2nd most popular genre of music? rock is more popular than pop. for what reason do people on this board believe that the genre is dead? artists of the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s are still listened to (and discussed on this board). only a few years ago did hip hop become more popular (and its getting less popular). i believe the people on this board don't socialize and only use the internet so its unclear to them that good music is still around. sure genres like jazz and classical are niche (picrel) but rock is x20 more popular than those genres. touch grass.
Reminder that rock is the 2nd most streamed genre of music...
Becuase this is what "rock" is now
the writing is on the wall. zoomers aren't worth a shit.
the most popular artists are (usually) not the best in the genre. this has almost always been the case. go to local shows, go to record stores to find people who care about music.
rock is dead because i dont listen to any rock music made in the past 20 years
The reason why its considered dead because it isn't really evolving. Most 'good' rock music is old AF, which is fine.
HipHop, the genre, is currently winning because it is actually quite innovative, in the same way rock used to be.
My point wasn't that those artists are shit (they are, but that's besides the point), it's that none of these can really be considered rock, the term has morphed into pop with guitars. I know music evolves over time and genre labels can get a bit fuzzy, but try explaining to someone how Thunder or Ho Hey is rock.
>HipHop, the genre, is currently winning because it is actually quite innovative, in the same way rock used to be.
Honest question: do you have an example?
People only listen to old rock bands bro
Well I'm not too well versed in HipHop, I actually do listen to more rock music... but when me and a friend of mine meet up, and have a little cannabis we share music. Both having very different tastes it can be an interesting crossover.
Anyways, he'll usually play somewhat accessible stuff like Kanye West (the life of pablo album), Kendrick Lamar and some Travis Scott tunes.
Some of the production effects used here, I've never heard in any other piece of music. Parts of the Kanye West album the life of pablo remind me of a SWANS record.
I'm comfortable staying in my own taste, so don't usually listen to much outside of this, but those days are usually quite mindblowing. Some of the stuff they do i don't see in any other area of music with effects/ production. Maybe some other anons can give some more honed recommendations .
>white people unironically listen to rap and hip hop
that will never stop being funny to me
Fair enough. I haven't closely listened to much hip hop since the 90s/00s. I think the only new sounds I've heard was on a vidya soundtrack (Cyberpunk). Some of it was different enough, I guess. Then again, it was trying to fit a future aesthetic.
Playboi Carti is the new Rock N Roll
Yep. It's not my cup of tea and usually would be quite hesitant, but its quite strange how they've mastered the studio.
It definitely has roots in rock with things like Beatles etc, but some of the new stuff is insane how it can make an impression on you.
Carti is rock music for smart people
And it isn't being made anymore
Pffft. Please.
>60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00
i don't see 10s or 20s
Effects in hiphop are the equivalent of a fat, ugly tranny covering himself in makeup. Or do I need to mention (((autotune)))? All it represents is a lack of substance and serious artistry. The so called innovation is smearing shit on walls and selling it as novelty.
Oh yeah, for sure man. If you say so! Whatever you say man. Totally, dude. You know what man, you're right. Well said, man.
Most of the popular rock is old while the popular rap, pop, r&b, edm etc music is mostly new. Back in the 60s-00s rock still had a major presence on the pop charts and was getting buzz along side other styles of music, but recently rather than more hype around newer bands (legitimately guitar based rock bands) or chart success for new bands its been a lot more focused on looking to the past while the big rap records are something thats fresh and coming out now which generates more online hype discussion because theres something new and fresh to anticipate rather than listening to something your dad listened to.
At least 90 percent of those rock streams are for older artists or pop mislabeled as rock.
