I have to admit it, I used to think that Light as a Feather was the best Corea fusion album, but I've really been warming to this one

I know that a lot of people find much of this album cheesy, but it's just great music fuck the haters

also this is much better than Romantic Warrior FWIW

That sounds so nice

nothing can prepare you for the Finnish language vocalese version of Spain, I was just marveling it today. I suppose it gets really absurd when you understand the lyrics.

the A-side is a Finnish vocalese version of Birdland, so appropriate for a Fusion thread, I guess

Any Soft Machine fags in here?

One of the best fusion albums

When I made this thread I just called it fusion edition just for fun. You dont have to post only fusion jazz

I don't think music science will ever be able to explain how Earth is a monster "spiritual jazz" style track, but the rest of the album is just average. Such an odd thing to do a concept album and totally nail the style on one track and have others be pretty ho-hum in comparison.

borderline fusion but for me, it's donald byrd's ethiopian knights

since it's Friday, there has to be discussion on what new releases you listened to today

the new Maxxxtet (pic) is the only full album I've listened to that dropped today

the "In a Silent Way"-army (probably just one guy, but...) should get familiar with Electric Byrd - great album in the early Miles fusion flavor

any fans of Jack DeJohnette's Special Edition around?

I've been somewhat obsessively listening to the track Ebony from Inflation blues lately, it's such a unique sound, a little bit like some Oliver Nelson compositions from the 60's, but feels like such a special mood

(specifically the Special Edition recording, not the smaller group one on YouTube)

My favorite of his. Ethiopian Knights totally slaps though.

Blackbyrd (not sure if there's still agreement on how to spell it) changed the world

it's quite the achievement that it was the best selling Blue Note album when it was released

of course, it's a perfectly valid position that Byrd's most prominent albums were a part of a movement that made jazz worse - I definitely feel that way

still, Mizell bros production fundamentally changed soul/r&b flavored fusion jazz and Blackbyrd is where it all starts

where are we going? is the goat, love that song

if you like Blackbyrd, look into any other jazz albums Larry and Fonce Mizell produced - the thing that really changes here is that in jazz the producer starts having an active role in shaping the sound of the album

Turbo tempos tho. They really had too much youthful energy. Nowadays when he plays Spain it's literally 40bpm slower

yeah i've listened to that, solid album — prob my fave work of theirs after byrd's stuff. harlem river drive is a groover
