Because the reason they made good music in the first place is because they’re disturbed, and if they don’t get actual help they turn to drugs and alcohol.

No matter how shitty a rock song can be, you still have to be good enough to play an instrument and learn to write a song.
Ending up doing any of these means you're either too fucked up to do anything "normal", like having a career and making money, or you're too autistic to even care, both of whom result in creating music that is more or less angry or unusual. Alcohol and drugs help you go further and reach your final vision.

A musician's job is to lit up a party. Everyone involved in party logistics is also involved in drugs/heavy drinking. If you're the literal core of the party then everybody will basically hand them free for you.
