I honestly don't have much experience with burzum outside of a few obligatory listens growing up on this board, but I do think its cool how he recorded double kick parts early on. He would track two separate single pedal tracks and splice them together to make it sound like he was playing with two pedals, and i appreciate that kind of unorthodox experimentation. I also saw a video once where he was riffing on an electric guitar with no amp so he rested the body of the guitar on his table in order to "amplify" the sound from the guitar. I thought that was interesting

Pretty good early output, nothing I'd call a personal favorite though, except for Dunkelheit which just nailed it for me. His later work is almost comically bad sometimes and he reminds me of some overly-opinionated boomer-aquaintance of mine who, while smart, is nowhere near as smart as he thinks he is.

Honestly one of the most important musical figures in the history of metal music. He's the most influential person in the subgenre of atmospheric black metal, and those earlier records are strikingly good. He was basically a creative genius, and the fact that he's basically uncancellable is testament to that. As Peste Noire has become more explicitly racist/fascist, they've basically been canceled even though their first LP was considered a classic. Personal politics are also starting to hinder the career of Deathspell Omega. Obviously, nobody's mining Skrewdriver's records to figure out how good the songwriting is, separate from the politics. But we've always known exactly how racist Varg is, and it's irrelevant because Burzum is such a critically important band.
However, Euronymous is even more legendary, and I think it's funny how much that seems to eat him up inside.

It's a real shame that whole scene couldn't turn out at least once decent track. If they had good music to go along with their subculture, it would have been 10/10.

I think because of his work, specifically because he was the mastermind behind Mayhem, who really defined what black metal is. That makes him kind of this legendary figure who was behind all of it.
I do think the legend around him is also interesting, but I would say his death is only a small part of that. He's not a tragic figure like Kurt Cobain. It's more that his murder by Varg is a small part of the story also involving Dead's suicide, church burnings, etc.
