well, you said that you were well read. given that the convo's about music, I figured you were implying that you were well read about music. if the technical aspect of music is meaningless, why bother reading so much musical literature? why bother reading any of it?
technical "jargon" allows you to more accurately explain why you like or dislike a thing, regardless of what the jargon refers to. if you are personally able to (or willing to) distill your opinion on art down to a simple "it bad and i no like it," there's no reason to continue the discussion. it's a waste of time.

Technical debates are meaningless because there is no ideal. For example if we were to debate these two paintings on strictly technical terms we could never come to any conclusion on which is the better painting. Anything I could say you could counter with "but the opposite is true!". This is why I place value on things like the ideal, soul etc

Think of any possible reason you could say the painting on the left is better. You could easily say the opposite of whatever reasons you think of and either would be valid which just seems intuitively wrong to everyone even though you can't objectively prove either side.

Any technical reason one could use to say the album was bad could be refuted by just saying "I disagree actually the opposite of true or actually that's good not bad"
