picrel is ridiculously good. What are some other more obscure early metalcore albums that I should listen to?

Considered one of the early "deathcore" bands, part of the superb H8000 Belgian metalcore scene of the 90s.

Important US band, some members later went on to bands like Shadows Fall.
holy shit Zao was first at something? I had some buddies who were into it in high school. They're Christian lmao

US, Christian band i think, but so was most of the Belgian ones. Still crushing. Guitarist went to another more modern one that i don't care for, so didn't remember the name.

Legendary French band, very riff based. This is one of the better ones imo.

A bit on the thrashy side, heavy as fuck though.
Nah, they were not the first at anything. And why would it matter if they are Christian or not?

Another Belgian one, a bit darker compared to the rest.

Early 90s metalcore from Luxembourg. This is a pretty good EP imo.

US one, a bit of a mix of metalcore, grind, sludge but pretty good.
That's gonna be the last one, i hope you find something you enjoy OP user.

Real first wave metalcore would be these late 80s/early 90s NY and East Coast hardcore bands kinda.
These are great. I love that filthy 90s cheap production sound. I had no idea that there was a scene in Belgium, is there anything else from that time and place that I should check out?
A weird amount of late 90s, early 2000s -core bands were at least nominally straight edge and/or Christian affiliated. Zao, Norma Jean, Undertow, Shai Hulud, and Strongarm all come to mind, but I'm sure there are others. Hell, even Botch started out pretending to be a straight edge band because they wanted to play shows in that scene.
Yeah man, Belgium had a big metalcore scene in the mid 90s, Europe in general did. They were known either as H8000 or Holy Terror as most of them were Christian. Have a few more (mostly from Belgium).

You should dig into the label Good Life Records, they were based in Belgium and released most of the stuff in Europe in the mid 90s.

I should have refreshed before I replied. Please keep them coming!
NYHC was kind of a different scene and aesthetic though. Like logically crossover thrash is literally thrash metal+hardcore, but you wouldn't call Agnostic Front a metalcore band, right?
Yes it was. But it heavily influenced metalcore in general, many consider it the first wave of metalcore (me included), before it started getting a bit more refined and more metallic in the early 90s with the other bands i posted.
I will post a few more in a bit. Also listen to the first Congress album, it's a great one, great mix of the old and things to come.

Another H8000, also Belgians. Was gonna post the first one, but the cover art is a bit messed up with an old picture of a butchered human for human consumption. Listening to this one now, i think this one is a bit better anyway, a bit death leaning, similar to Deformity in a way.

More Belgian h8000, not on Good Life Recs though. This is a bit rawer, and death leaning as well.
old school metalcore is based. too bad the last 20 years of the genre has been almost entirely dogshit.
