they arent super well known lol. i hadnt heard of them before Any Forums and rym. they are not at the same tier of popularity like radiohead/beatles/beach boys/pink flyod etc. Everybody who listens to cocteau twins regularly either has a rym account or religiously browses Any Forums

Honestly, I didn't like this Cocteau Twins album. I found Treasure and The Moon and the Melodies much more musically interesting, both blowing my mind on the first listen, hooking me by the first track.

This fucking album. The first track made me shiver from the massive vocal chords, and the second track punches you in the fucking gut, hard.
Rest of the album is also gold, but the first 5 minutes are honestly jaw dropping.

Yeah, I was honestly either gonna say that OP is either trolling or is getting into music for the first time if he thinks Cocteau Twins aren't well known. However, Cocteau Twins, while pretty popular in online music communities, was never really a super famous band. If I asked other people IRL if they knew Cocteau Twins, they probably wouldn't know about them. I guess Heaven or Las Vegas isn't super well-known compared to, say, the Dark Side of the Moon.
