RYM has a complex where if an album has a sufficient amount of hype and imaginary "pedigree" to it, it will just keep vacuuming up thousands of absurdly high ratings in a self-perpetuating spiral, possibly from people who don't have any real frame of reference. "Whoa this is the top rated on RYM...it must be profound...5 stars"
Pretty much the top album of any given year is going to be one of these, the top 3-5 even. This year it's BCNR. The answer is who gives a fuck?

I remember the day it came out, people were calling it an instant classic and saying that college courses were going to be taught on it, etc. It was by far the most cringe reaction to an album I have ever experienced. Ironically, the next album, Damn, despite a lukewarm reception, better stood the test of time.
