What went wrong?
What went wrong?
the person who typed this article is pretentious as hell
People who can't sing, play an instrument, and don't know basic music theory were allowed to post.
The board stopped being a pitchfork sub-forum. And that's a good thing.
shills are one of the worst parts of this entire website, and they're supported by the mods
hipsters will pretend that this is some hidden source of good music
"Oh, you use RYM? I used to use RYM and reddit but all the good stuff is on Any Forums. You've probably never heard of it."
Any Forums is so far from that description now its not even a debate. I blame the mods for allowing it to become primarily a gossip/coomer/shill board.
I wanna Kate her Bush if you know what I mean
that has nothing to do with it. when this board was good it was little more than a pitchfork/hipster runoff/lastfm outpost for weird microgenres and indie rock. the problem is just that there is no longer a shared culture in america over music, because mainstream music is so cringe to the point of being unlistenable, and the underground music is so specific that mosts artists can only keep their brand of weirdos listening, nothing is universal in music anymore
Mostly true, but maybe that's why classic music still gets alot of attention even (especially?) from zoomers. Our past culture is still shared, even if our modern culture is not.
Just a theory.
the zoomers started pouring in and made fun of us for liking NMH and everything had to become layered in a thick coating of irony
its not really the same. classical music could narrowly be described with better accuracy as "european art music from the 18th to 20th century". meaning that there isn't anything new, there isn't a scene, there isn't anything that relates to a youth culture that the other generations had. its more about the intellectual posturing of "yes I am smart because I enjoy classical music".
it kind of sucks, but things will basically be like this until the internet undergoes another radical shift, away from spotify and tiktok algorithms
ersatz shit
Not enough classical discussion
I didn't mean (just) "classical" music, i meant classic in the sense of music enjoyed by subsequent generations beyond when it was created. Classic rock counts. As does any music (all art really) made in pervious generations that is still appreciated and enjoyed today.
Any Forums, gamergate, the elections.
Unfortunately I don't see the internet going away from algorithms - its going more and more toward them.
That sounds like shit. Any Forums peaked in 2020. It was all down hill from there.

holy fuck this has to be bait you retard zoomer newfag.
lmao
The demographic of the site changed from general young internet nerds to specifically right wing boomers and sexually frustrated incels
its still different for the reasons that i mentioned, but i don't think that this board is representative of zoomers as a whole. the people that browse here are a lot more intelligent than the general pop, they're not listening to classic anything
yep, there are small pockets of people that are obsessed with the idea of localism, so in a weird way it could roundabout back to start making local scenes again, just preselected by algos
they're the same people? a lot of those nerds got radicalized after the gamergate thing
