Schlag is so much better than this it’s hard to put into words

I disagree. I think Geordie's vocals on Cavalcade are much more self-assured and I like the jazzier tones. Schlag is still good though.

i used to hate cavalcade at first but it grew on me a lot, slow is just so fucking good

Someone had to say it. Won’t be annoying about it though, there are a bunch of great options already

K4 - Life is a Gift

Huh from the 2020 -2030 i think he means right?

I don't get people who dislike Cavalcade. I think it's harder on a first listen. So many fantastic albums aren't easy on a first listen though. Cavalcade has a lot to unpack but it's really great when you give it more time. The new BCNR on the other hand just feels more grating. That's true of the old BCNR album as well as the Squid album though.

It's pretty simple. Black Midi's strength was always their live performance skills and improvisational jamming. And as much as their haters want to write them off as industry plants, they built their following fair and square through constant gigging, word of mouth and viral live videos. Schlagenheim carried over that into a studio setting and the album had this wild, unpredictable, ramshackle feel because they were composing organically through jam sessions. Cavalcade, on the other hand, is way more calculated and overthought, and it felt like the band stepping out of their comfort zone way too early. Geordie said as much, that they were tired of the reputation they'd built up and wanted to throw fans a curveball. It's a classic sophomore trap, and while BM did it a bit more gracefully than most, it's still a letdown by comparison.
