Coldplay, straight-edge, slowcore, post-rock, and new sincerity

Low is well-received for being a sort of intentional statement against what was typical of the time. It's a turn to sincerity after irony, and musically it's expressed by prioritizing serenity, seriousness, and being ponderous. I feel early Coldplay (like their first two albums and their pre-Parachutes EPs) deserve reappraisal, because thematically they feel like they're doing exactly what Low is doing. The lyrics are part of it too: they have this "serious" approach to more common feelings like romance and frustration. Early Coldplay is often dismissed as bland and as not taking risks, but I don't know. If you properly reconceive what they were doing and fit it in its proper framework, I think it's actually got merit. Too bad they really fucked up later on though.

Holy shit, i never in a million fucking years expected to ever encounter another person who perceived aesthetic and conceptual parallels between early slowcore-era 90s Low and Parachutes-era Coldplay, especially on a shithole like Any Forums of all places. Viva La Vida is, imo, their magnum opus, but Parachutes and their pre-album eps will always be my favorites of their works, exactly bc of the stylistic minimalism they perfectly embody. Their early material truly is like a britpop version of early 90s american slowcore, and its sublime.

On a similar note, i think its cute how in the early to mid 00s, people memed on coldplay and pigeonholed them as a mindlessly trite and sappy pop band, when, as the above-posted songs indicate, alot of their early work evokes really weirdly dark and ominous emotions and images, particularly in response to ideas such as "progress" and technology and post-industrial society in general.

Advanced shitposting

>Duhhhh my retard brain cant comprehend what these anons are describing, so it must be ironic shitposting duhhuhuhuhh

I haven't given these albums this much thought beyond claiming that the first four records are unfairly maligned by music obsessives. They had their fans, clearly, but I feel like most people who are real into music just right them off as 'Radiohead worship'. They have more ammo now due to their modern output, but the early stuff is really good and deserves a critical re-evaluation such as the one you've given. Good stuff. Shame we never got a Coldplay shoegaze record

Goddammit its so fucking good.
for some reason, during the late summer of 2008, i experienced bouts of death anxiety-induced panic attacks, and i used to calm myself by blasting tf out of this track through the crappy little earbuds i had at the time and focusing on the thought that theyre using sleep as a metaphor for death.

PUKE

Coldplay is the same as Radiohead to me. Music listened to by people that work in advertising with no real taste in anything.

what music do you think is tasteful?

You want a whole fucking list here?

Bach
