still shit all of them

Cavalcade sucks
Both BCNR albums are better than anything in this image except maybe Schlagenheim

>Cavalcade sucks
But it doesn't

what was he on

Finally found footage of the incident during black midi's Mercury Prize performance where the guitarist who left (or got kicked out, depending on who you ask) purposely ran headfirst into a grand piano, which they cut away from during the broadcast
gave himself concussion and a coccyx injury

The songwriting is A-tier, the production/mixing is inferior to Dan Carey's on Schlagenheim by a wide margin particularly in the loudest/noisiest moments, LP3 songs are strong so it'll rest on the production as to how it shapes up

Squid LP2 is the one I'm most curious about because their style to date is so inscrutable, apart from the obvious krautrock and Talking Heads/LCD Soundsystem vibes they're pretty hard to pin down compared to bm and BCNR despite being ostensibly simpler/more mainstream

Bright Green Field was pretty great so I'm excited for whatever Squid has next.
I'm sure whatever Black Midi does next will be interesting and better than Cavalcade.
Black Country, New Road without Isaac will be interesting to see where it goes but it is sad since he was such a major part of the band

psychosis of some sort, he used to snarl and growl uncontrollably in some of their interviews and apparently he was crying / wigging out on stage and shit by the time he got kicked out, sad we won't get more black midi in that style but at least unlike BCNR they actually recorded Schlagenheim with him first before changing their sound

nobody's saying it, but it from the band refusing to comment on the situation and the guy's relatives acting pissy towards the remaining members on social media it seems pretty likely he was removed from the band by the others for his own safety or theirs

soz I just reposted to explain what the webm actually shows since the video's low quality

Why the fuck did he run into a piano?

serious answer, half- wilful self-harm live on stage due to a self-destructive personality and half- young up-and-coming rocknrolla eager to please in performance
funny answer, to trigger the normalscum at a yuppie awards show

He quite clearly had different energy to the other three so I fully expected something like what happened to happen sooner or later but it is a shame it happened quite so soon and not after one or two more albums, but then again if they'd waited that long to kick him out it might have gone full Richey Edwards by then

His absence on Cavalcade is notable

Yeah it would be made up for if they released the Marc Riley BBC live session featuring him where they played John L and Chondro in their earlier, rockier arrangements, it's a shame the BBC still doesn't bother with a digital download store for its radio sessions they've had so many great ones over the years now, they're always so strapped for cash it would seem like a win-win but I guess it makes too much sense for something good to happen on Hell Island

i started to like black midi not long ago, but the thought of them just being satire cant get off my mind
theres no way those songs are for real and unironic right?

girls

Which ones? They're not "satire" but they don't take themselves as seriously as some of the other (BCNR) Windmill bands.

oh wow. wicked. thanks for the answers.

he also wrote & sings on the best black midi track

fucking legend. miss him. although constantly doing stupid shit like that on stage wouldve taken a toll on him

>black midi
>bcnr
virtuoso musicians trying to make raw and uncompromised music? shit

Steenie is a fucking treasure, hottest rock frontman we've had in a few years too

All these bands had except shame had potential and just disappointed hard. Every song on Town Centre was a banger, but BGF didn't have the same quality. Black midi had a really good KEXP live performance but schlagenheim sounded soulless and cavalcade was forgettable. For the first time was great there just wasnt enough of it and decided to try to be the next Arcade Fire or whatever.
