Elderfag here, graduated high school in '83. No one gives a flying fuck about XTC except zoomers, they suck so bad they couldn't even make a splash in the wide-open 80's. Literally only zoomie contrarians would ever say they're worth a listen. When Murmur came out it was just a whisper, no one really caught on to REM until Fables of the Reconstruction. The first REM song I ever heard was Driver 8 off of Reckoning, and I was deep into post-punk in the early 80's. Anyone who says REM sucks doesn't realize that their shitty opinion of REM says a lot more about their basic musical taste and blatant contrarianism than it does about REM. REM WERE the cutting edge in 1983, if there even was an edge - mostly everything was trying to be something new, some succeeded, XTC failed. youtube.com
