This review is a microcosm of why music criticism is a dead end. Technical musicology is the only meaningful things that can be said about music.
"References, References, References" the reviewer maligns of the album, without batting an eyelash as he opens with Roland Barthes and points to Mark Fisher. I don't care about BCNR but this review is one more onto the trash heap of meaningless culturegazing meandering. 99% of music criticism is superfluous.

let's forget about the fact that what you said is conjecture. Isn't it good to have gateway music like this? I can't tell you how many times an entry level release led to a rabbit hole that later led to a passion. It's kind of a trite criticism anyway just so you can distance yourself from something you perceive as trendy or undeserving of its praise.
