My singing teacher recommended a bunch of models to base my singing off of. The sessions are only 30 min right now because I recently became unemployed, so there's a bit of an issue there...
Anyway, here's the list: >James Taylor >John Denver >Andy Williams >Ed Sheeran (actually, this is my addition, but she implied strongly this is also a good model for me, even though the only song of his I like that I know of is I See Fire... actually, I'm too ashamed to assess if I like his more popular songs... Anyway, I can perform I See Fire pretty well apparently; she said I should practice it just like I sung it)
But here's the problem. The songs, I've found from these guys are nice and all and I do like singing them. I have a newfound respect in particular for Country Roads, which I don't like as much to listen to, but is very nice to sing.
But I'm sick of doing these sorts of songs all the time.
I wanna sing something more like rock or alt rock or maybe just some weird shit.
Can any of you cunts find singers that might sound like me, but are singing songs that are like, less calm or less just love song stuff? She said something about clearness or smoothness or something. I wasn't sure if she was suggesting I should be clearer or the singers were clearer or what.
I don't mind if you mention people I know the name of already; I don't know what the fuck I'm doing. My vocab is limited, I don't know a lot of musicians or bands by name and a lot of the time, I just choose a random Disney song to sing. I'll say my teacher's method involves practicing your entire range, so maybe I could use more people that sound more like Andy Williams, but whatever is fine.
I just want to practice/sing right and find out how that feels.
I can't give a sample, btw; My mic is shit and I'm ashamed of my fucking voice. I don't think I'm good at singing at least not right now I'm not and there's no way in Hell I'm posting that shit to Any Forums.

Sing like Morrissey easy peasy
Michael Nguyen
It is normal to post vocaroo clips to Any Forums just keep it anonymous unless in the shill threads
Jose Baker
At least tell us your range if you're too much of a pussy to post a vocaroo.
You have tenor energy by how much you overthink things

>At least tell us your range I don't know what my range... is... I don't know any music terms really well. I'm kind of studying this outside of college for various reasons. >too much a pussy Its not just that, my mic stand was shit and broke, I have ADHD and can't maintain the right distance and sometimes its too loud or too quiet. I also live in a fucking apartment so I have to practice a bit quietly.
It just sounds autistic and shitty, and I'm not sure what anyone would get from it.

She, and some other students I was with back when it wasn't private lessons, said I have a good upper register. But I've never read sheet music. I just model off the singer.
I can't go too low, but I'm also not on par with a member of Queen back in the day...

I only listen to blue and rock singers. My favourites are probably Axl Rose and Howlin' Wolf. I also like Kurt Cobain, not particularly because he was a good singer but rather because he pushed his vocal range to the limit causing cracks. That's what made his vocals so memorable to me.
Joshua Moore
Fine Here's something at least. You're to go from almost flat, to the highest note you can on this exercise.
I listen to all kinds of music besides usually stuff like country, jazz, blues, folk that sort of stuff unless I'm high. Although, sometimes I'll also listen to some of the "classic" 90's rap, but that's kind of irrelevant.
I'm not shy of heavy metal even, any more and have recently listened to Pantera, but then I fucking also listen to / watch musicals like RHPS or that one play group on youtube that does Harry Potter stuff.
I'll skip over the generic predictable rock stuff I enjoy like Freddie Mercury...
Axl Rose and Howlin' Wolf might be too tough for beginners. Kurt Cobain is doable though, I think. There are tutorials on YouTube of Axl and Kurt to set you on the right path

Lookup the song fourth of July by X or any Bruce Springsteen song
Gabriel Rogers
It's ok, we all sound like that starting out

TBF I've also been singing for probably way too long now. But yeah... I dunno. My instructor wasn't having me listen to my voice probably for obvious reasons. So its just like fuck.
Henry Reed
Is it normal for a singing instructor to not have you listen to your voice? I'm not sure I progressed at all. Its been months at least. I thought I'd at least sound OK. I guess I need to practice way more often than I have.
Damn it. This is making me sad now.
I need to figure out a goal, but I don't know how to do that when I can't really tell my singing is shit in the moment. Everything about it sounds wrong. I have literally no idea what I'm supposed to do.
Did she specifically say not to? Most recommend recording yourself to hear what areas need improvement, so I'd say in my limited knowledge that is kinda weird if she said not to.
