Totally agree. I don't really have anything to add to this thread but I have been saying that the next wave of counter culture music will be an antithetical reaction to this fucking absurdly commercial and mass market kind of music that is the norm now. I'm not saying there won't be hyper commercial pop music, that's here to stay, but it won't be cool to be a fan of some assembly line pop star or whatever. I think that's kind of already the case and this shit has all happened multiple times before in past generations but something has got to give sooner rather than later I think.

how I view most of the people that divulge in that aesthetic are either nerds who are trying too hard to seem cool or normies who are trying to hard to seem like geeks. Essentially its insincerity on both ends.
It happens all the time, but every time there seems to be a crack in the armor of the mainstream media, they double down on their agenda, and now people are just willing to accept it. It's to the point that the idea of counter culture and being a rebel/punk itself is it's own mass marketed industry. Just look at the pop punk revival going on at the moment.

It's just Y2K/2000s nostalgia, wait til people start reminiscing about indie folk hipster aesthetic next. Anyway that dude RebelTaxi predicted this aesthetic for years and it only took this long for the kids to finally catch on.

It's not widespread yet, I mean in the way pop punk emo and nu metal are getting nostalgic for a lot of people, that would be the next thing for them to say HAHA REMEMBER HOW SHITTY MUMFORD AND SONS WERE and they just embrace the shit and start loving it.

I mean yeah Dismiss Yourself is metastisized cancer, but there was good, cool, and fun stuff from when the wave was still new. They stole from that shit and made it fit their lousy woke narrative. Essentially just watered the whole thing down before cancelled all the artists they originally stole from. Can't wait for when this thing completely collapses and the guy has to go crawling back to a day job.
