She's just delightful. Love her music, her attitude, her style. It's a wonder she hasn't had a resurgence in the TikTok era
If you know you know
She's not as big as she was 20 years ago. I don't think she's even released an album in ten years or more. What does she even do now? Wikipedia says she's still "active." Does that mean she just does small venue legacy tours in France or something?
She's a legend. That video of her dancing, shaking, free, should be revered as a legendary song. It's a wonder that it hasn't been taken up by TikTok dancers today.
She's probably laying low enjoying life. That's great. But those clips of her when she was young are worth their weight in gold. If it were up to me the statues would be built tomorrow
I think what's particularly unique about her is that the songs themselves are good and catchy, and they aren't just good because of her dancing sexy one time on French TV. I can't really think of any 21st century pop-singer who managed to release a 10/10 perfect debut album like Gourmandises, and was able to follow up with another 10/10 in Mes Courants Électriques.
that's a good point. You'd think j'en ai marre's dance would take off. Even the dress she's wearing during that iconic performance is still en mode.
She is lay low, enjoying life. Her passion since childhood was to be a dancer, not a singer. She got far in France's version of Dancing With The Stars if I recall correctly, and is married to a dancer, too. I am pretty sure she is hanging out, enjoying motherhood and the freedom to dance as much as she wants without the pop music demands.
The real surprising thing, is that she was actually really good live too. I'm not sure if this is backing track, but I don't think it is considering the adlib close to the end:

Great point. She's a model of what a popstar should be. I haven't listened to her albums as closely as I should have. I'm sure they're excellent.
But let's no discount her appearances on French TV. They're inseparable from her albums, I feel. She effortlessly captures a kind of beauty and intensity that sticks with us. There's something to them. It is little wonder that most of her views today are for that one video where she's dancing and singing J'en ai marre!
It goes beyond lust. There's a kind of platonic beauty she embodies in that video, that specific time, that touches us. I could watch it over and over. Let's not forget that
Right? Insane, innit
Good to hear. In my eyes she's already earned her ticket to Valhalla and can just coast until she passes.
I don't think it is a backing track either. You can hear it in how her voice changes as she does that dancing moment back and forth across the stage with the guitarist before the chorus.
To add onto this: whenever you listen to a group that nails pop, truly nails it, like ABBA, you're enraptured. No matter how much you deny it or make fun of it.
What's beautiful about Alizee is that those videos nail both the music and performance side. She's great on both counts. Whenever we talk about her we shouldn't forget her success - she hits both
I agree, and it shows her lasting power. It's interesting considering that she was obviously meant to target the French-speaking European market (France, Belgium, and Switzerland) but managed to get just as much - if not more over time - lasting power across the World. While I'm sure a lot has to do with her beauty, I think it goes hand-in-hand with her ability to sing. There are plenty of attractive popstars but few can have people returning to their songs or live TV performances decades later.
En Concert is a great album. I think what makes it good is that you wouldn't really think she's a live-singer, considering the admittedly heavy production on her albums and the fact that she tends to back-track sing on the live TV performances. Just listen to this version of Gourmandises from the album:

Perfect. Kino, even.
I wish I had a photo of it but I had a hoodie made with "c'est pas ma faute" in all uppercase embroidered on the back with a small Alizée logo on the front breast and my French friends are always stunned when they see it for the first time.
"How do you know Alizée?"
"You're acting like we didn't go nuts on the internet for J'en Ai Marre here, too."
I saw on discogs that they had put up her albums on vinyl. I would probably get it just as a conversation piece, since I already have Gourmandises and Mes Courants Électriques on CD from when I went to France in 2004.
I may have to get Gourmandises on vinyl.
I think, out of her two "top" albums, Gourmandises definitely wins out. Gourmandises and Moi..Loltia are perfect songs.

I agree. I gotta go to bed. Take it easy user. I'll see you in the next Alizée thread.
For me it's her cover of Maddona's "La Isla Bonita" on live television. She can't top that. Such a graceful performance.
