Is this seriously the pinnacle of Prog. Rock?

Is this seriously the pinnacle of Prog. Rock?
Legit one of the worse albums I've ever heard, the only somewhat decent one is the third song, first one is fucking 20 minutes long and the second is boring as hell

It's not even in the top 10. It's still a good album but I know how Yes can feel corny at times

What is your top 10 user?

No

Huh, I'm not that knowledgeable about prog but:
>Soft Machine - Third
>King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
>Area - Arbeit Macht Frei
>Can - Tago Mago
>Aphrodite's Child - 666
>Pink Floyd - Ummagumma
>Magma - Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh
>Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
>Museo Rosenbach - Zarathustra
>Van Der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts

thanks scaruffi

now be courteous and give me yours

Well if you count krautrock and canterbury scene as prog then I agree that close to the edge is not top 10, and ok top 10 overall

No, the pinnacle of prog rock is either the Beach Boys, Todd Rundgren or Gene Clark, pretty much everything following is regressive.

>putting The Beach Boys and Todd Rundgren in the same sentence
this is bait

That album has like 2 rock tracks, the rest are progressive circus music. Most bands which are considered "prog rock" are fundamentally missing the "rock" part.

Listen to some wishbone ash instead.

I like this one.
I think it manages to retain the Rock of Prog Rock better than most albums. Nice hefty guitar tone with memorable riffs and choruses in between the measured chaos of prog wankery. Red that is.

This. Lamb is the pinnacle.
Also, OP: why the fuck are you trying to listen to prog rock if 20 minute track lengths frighten you? Sounds like the wrong rabbit hole for you

Oh yeah, I agree, red and court are what I'd also consider prog rock. They love their interludes of corcus wankery though, but at least they don't overwhelm the albums.

Think it helps that most of the songs aren’t much more than 10 minutes at most. The one expedition in their discography is Lizard’s final track and that is broken into 5 distinct measures of 4-5 minutes each. Forced them to reign themselves in. The 40 minute runtime of an album helps with that too. I like Steven Wilson’s 2 good albums, but they don’t need to be an hour each.

>first one is fucking 20 minutes long
And?

Another contrarian retard thread.

>Moving Gelatine Plates - The World of Genius Hans
>Maxophone - Maxophone
>Caravan - If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You
>Genesis - Foxtrot
>Harmonium - Si on avait besoin d'une cinquième saison
>Serú Girán - La grasa de las capitales
>Samla Mammas Manna - Måltid
>Apиэль - Pyccкиe кapтинки
>José Cid - 10.000 anos depois entre Vénus e Marte
>SBB - Memento z banalnym tryptykiem
Close to the Edge imo is to prog what Kind of Blue is to jazz: the album you listen to for figuring out what parts of prog you like before immersing yourself in albums that make use of them more extensively

I always preferred Fragile or The Yes Album
