Were USB ADSL modems significantly cheaper to buy/produce than modems with RJ45 port, or what was the reason ISPs gave USB ones so often? That would have solved 100% cases of "leenux/äpfel doesn't work with my internet" back in 2000s, no proprietary computer software needed to setup the connection, just a browser.
