yes

As a matter of fact, I do

I once helped correct some exams for "introduction to programming", which used C.
Students either got everything about pointers right, or nothing, with only a handful of students being in the former group. There was no noticeable difference between those writing good code and those writing ugly code.

i kind of like having types

K&R 1st print
1. function parameters can be only int and pointer
2. return value only int and pointer
3. int is integer of length pointer for target CPU
4. types of parameters declaration optional, header files optional
5. int is default type
THIS WHAT MAKE ME LOVE C
(also post new name for C, because C ungooglable)

I don't, I even use it in C++ when I just need to pass through some kind of handle (e.g. a Python object).
>b... but it doesn't clean up automatically!
That's the good thing about it. The code becomes much more easy to understand and you don't have to worry about magic side effects. The object becomes invalidated when you call object_free(pointer) and that's it.

Yes. I also need something for my pointer to point at.

just use B at that point

a void pointer declaration

>have a type checker
>don't use it
nothin' personnel

is that a waste of memory or are you going dereference it?

I'm going to dereference it, but I sure as hell ain't going to initialize it

how are you going to deference it without a typecast to some other pointer type?

I'd tell you but it is a proprietary trade secret

you compressed the secret by sending it to /dev/null, didn't you?

what lesson do I take from this anecdote?

children should be neither seen nor heard

That pointers are a great tool to filter out those who should stick with C (those who write good code and understand pointers) from those who should stick with programming, but move to Java or something (those who write good code but don't get pointers), and those who should just put the computer down and go knap some flint instead.

nobody needs pointers anymore grandpa

Yeah, the G.C. will do the job.
Job.
Job.
