I don't have a need for a desktop so I've pretty much gotten rid of all of my tech besides a thinkpad, a phone and some storage.

i use my laptop for work that's it

laying in bed, using on sofa, moving entire system from one room to another.

Ideal simplicity set up is a cellphone and a powerful laptop that when needed you can connect to an external monitor

take the arm notebook pill user

>laying in bed, using on sofa
a tablet would be better for these use cases lol

no... too much shit if you add tablet into the mix
I don't like worrying about 3 or more devices
Cellphone + Laptop is more than enough!

plus tablets don't really sit well, even their magnetic keyboards are flappy and don't rest well while using it, you're forced to support the weight with your hands and after awhile its uncomfortable

ideally, I'd like to have a Samsung DeX style type of thing, where my main computer is my phone, which I can slide into a laptop frame and use the phone as the computer

It depends on your use case. I don't know who you are. I don't know what kind of phone you use and what you use it for. I get along fine with an iPhone, DSLR, and a Panasonic toughbook. I don't want to be editing things on a 6" touchscreen. Mac's suck now. I could switch to Android tomorrow and be just fine by the way. This isn't a iphone post, it's just what I own and use currently. I like technology so I switch phones every year, Android and iOS cycle. But I really enjoy using Windows far more than I ever did mac os, iOS, and Android. I've used Linux and I don't like it. My use case will differ from most of yours. So please give more details.

streaming anime on a tablet (at least right now) is a horrible experience

Not really. I can't set a tablet on my hairy chest and watch porn.

>tablets
>magnetic keyboards
the point of a tablet is not having a keyboard while consuming content lol

what about torrenting directly from ur tablet? (assuming it is an android one) then using a video player like vlc ?

tablets suck

too big to comfortably use like a smartphone
too small and awkward to be used like a laptop

The only use case I see for them is like touchscreen terminals for businesses, or if you're some niche professional who draws or uses them like a scheduling notepad thing or a doctor reading charts and filling out checklists and whatnot

this is a good reason but im not so sure it beats the comfort of a desk. ive never tried it, so i guess im wondering which one (desktop or laptop) is more comfy for home usage
well, i know for sure that the M1 will handle everything i wanna do on it. its more so about the screen. i multitask a ton and have a lot of documents/windows open at a time. would the, say, 13 inch screen be a problem for that kind of thing? ive got good eyesight

How do you lay down and use a tablet comfortably?

Keep your knees up and hope it balances well?
Hold it with your hands the entire time?

They sell tablet attachments like keyboards or stands, and none of them work well for comfytime™

tablets are too small to balance on thighs, you have to move your legs close together so the tablet doesn't fall between legs
or you have to hold the fucking thing which becomes burdensome after awhile

tablets are fucking retarded desu
unless you use a stylus for drawing homosexual cartoons, then what is the point!

tablets comes in various shapes, color and sizes to fit your exact needs kek

>How do you lay down and use a tablet comfortably?
probably like pic related but i would add more head cushions in the back

ive seen some cool tablet arms on amazon. clamp one end at the head of your bed and then clamp your tablet in the other. its like one of those overhead dentist lights. just a floating TV above you.
my concern would be the clamp fucking up my tablet but id assume its impossible for the clamp to do any harm to it, especially if youve got a case on.
that said, looks pretty damn cool. if you had a surface or some kind of 2 in 1 windows laptop (so you could torrent properly) itd be a pretty neat media setup

if you need to write things yes
if you just want to consoom a phone works fine

looks uncomfortable and inconvenient

to get the best of all worlds, I'd just get a premium 2-in-1 laptop that I can use as a laptop, flip 270° and use as a media consumption device while lying down, connect to external monitor and use in a desktop style, etc.

Yes.
Premium 2-in-1 super laptop machine.

Until they make smartphones powerful enough and designed to also have desktop version for the UI, then this is the only option

I have an m1 Mac. Apple really limits what you can do with it. It blocks a lot of ios applications. Rosetta is only 70% compatible with older Intel mac apps. By older I mean by 3 years. Anything 4 years and older does not work. There's a lot of older surprises you may not like with the m1 Mac. It sits collecting dust. I might sell it on eBay.

Samsung does this but it's still Android.

im mainly wanting it for development so im not sure thatd be an issue for me.
that said, it would be my daily driver of course. do you have any experience with watching stuff on it? as in, would you have a better or worse experience watching on mac as opposed to mpv on windows
