From my experience and knowledge, yes.

Any apps that can open and edit microshit office files locally without requiring login to some bullshit cloud services? I fucking hate google docs.

K9 Mail (F-Droid),
NewPipe (check website),
Simple Keyboard (F-Droid, I sure hope you know who makes Gboard)
Firefox Focus (I couldn't find a satsifactory browser on F-Droid so you could use...)
Aurora Store - google play store replacer but doesn't require you to sign in, good to use for downloading non-free garbage
Fedilabs (I think F-Droid) nice app for browsing the freetarded twatterverse

Gmaps WV, web view client for Google Maps. Use web view for most of the normie things you use for better privacy. There is web view available for Gmail, Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter and there's web view for fediverse too, like for mastodon, pixelfed, peertube etc, and there's an app that makes web views for you if there's no web view alternative for it, called Native a, it uses Chrome tho.

invidious also takes videos from google as you can see from picrel

What kind of risks am I actually taking for ignoring these schizo ideas about Google Play?
How do you even trust some faceless revengeful North Korean developer over a paid for service by a company with their reputation in the game?

The fact that you think a paid for service is in any way less scummy than a foss one is telling. Stick to google play.

Sure FOSS developers can release for free on Google Play?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_free_and_open-source_Android_applications

I still believe the main motivation for alternatives is (drug induced) paranoia or ODD (oppositional defiant disorder) but understand that there are implications or situations requiring disconnection from any possible authority, like top secrit development or clandestine operations.
But I guess you are just the stoner schizo type.

>do you even trust some faceless revengeful North Korean developer
Well for starters, you can look at the code for yourself and see if there's anything fishy. But most people don't know programming, so for that there's fdroid and I think you can trust fdroid because they review the code before the app is published there and given their reputation, I don't think they would let a spyware to get published on their platform.
>What kind of risks am I actually taking for ignoring these schizo ideas about Google Play?
None I would say. I don't think your data might be of any interest for the govt or big tech companies. I just use these foss apps because I like supporting the movement of free software, data and info. Data, info and software that could be used for greater good shouldn't be sold to create profits for a big corporate entity.

They are both free to try. If you trust the big herd more than user you can see from the number of users that VLC wins.

NewPipe with SponsorBlock

Don't know, never had it, but Tor Browser is now available for android through The Guardian Project. You can add to F-droid by going to settings then Repositories and add. I have had no problems using it.

I can't save files on tor browser

I just downloaded listen.moe to get my fix of j-pop pretty cool so far.

McDonald's app
Wendy's app

>what motivates people to use free and open source software
It's literally in the name.

The better question is, what "motivates" people to use proprietary software where (you) are the product and get spied on, when free and open source alternatives exist.
Baka.

How so

Just checked and downloaded Hamlet. It worked for me, however it was a little glitchy, wth but it did finally work

It's on Google Play store.

Install everything that says simple... thats it.

I have netguard and newpipe.

I don't know what to tell you, it's there.

>How do I trust them?
Simple. I can look through the code myself, and a North Korean would have next to nothing to do with me anyways unless he wants to see see terabytes of furry porn and nakadashi that probably gets him executed.

fucking adhd zoomers

It always does. Without proxy like in your image you're the one connecting to google but with proxy it goes through instance instead so google has no idea who just asked for video X if instance has a lot of users

It's been almost two months, user. Last update was last year on December 4.

What is the problem with that? I use Firefox ESR on desktop and always hope to only get one update a year. Web browser not updating is a good thing.

Aegis, OpenKeyChain, Password Store, Feeder, AntennaPod, NewPipe

newpipe, floris Board, notepad, smart cookie web

Yup

Newpipe is tranny software.
Waiting for someone else to take over. Devs refusing to add functionality because they don't agree with the requestors political stance.

KurobaEX

It gets the job done, but man this thing has so many very obvious flaws. Why can't they make a better, more secure app manager?

Why do you guys trusts apps developed by random unknown people?

Why do you trust apps developed by random corporations that don't provide source code?

More people use those apps and are therefore most likely stable and vetted
The companies that make them _usually_ have no reason to do malicious things to my phone (other than serve ads or track some of my activity
These large corporations also need to take care of their reputations
Unknown random guys' apps can probably do much worse

>The companies that make them _usually_ have no reason to do malicious things to my phone other than being malicious

yeah christmas and new years
the christmas r/a/dio thread usually gets as active as an /sp/ thread on a big game or a Any Forums thread when some normie show is ending, except this time it's just drunk lonely autists
I'm not big on Any Forums culture, but when I catch them the streams are incredibly entertaining
This new years, the jannies even messed with the site so it spams gifs all over the screen on the r/a/dio thread so no one can post or read unless they block every image with ublock. good times

>implying your apps from random devs dont do these things

Is fine for mounting my phone fs over sftp and not having to touch a garbage MTP USB wired connection ever in my life again, and running magick/exiftool/ffmpeg/sed/awk/youtube-dl and forks, i even went far enough to run a puppet localhost MariaDB server on it. Don't expect to have a smooth experience trying to compile things on it without proots though. I never figured out a way to make some things like Bukku to work.

Didn't see these mentioned
Croc - send and receive any sized file(s) from one device to another. Great for those one shot transfers to someone else or to another machine that doesn't have syncthing configured.
Imagepipe - on googled phones it's nice for stripping exif data for degoogled phones the benefits are data compression and other quick image manipulation before sharing elsewhere
Guerilla mail - reliable disposable email
Tripeaks - fun, short solitaire like card game. No ads, pixel art, comfy time killer
And finally
FOSS browser - privacy focused browser. The main selling point for me is the profiles. Very easy to change site permissions on the fly. I don't have to dig through 4 menus to enable JS or cookies for a particular site. It's not perfect but for me it's the easiest and most enjoyable privacy focused browser to configure and daily drive.

>using a browser created by some unknown devs
jesus fucking christ Any Forums is fucking retarded

so you know the devs of all the software you use? i don't see your point

Why feed a random company with your time and pocket for bullshit compressed assets? Just take a walk or read something. Even watch a random video at least. I don't get it, 90% of these things never last more than 5 years.

Attached: 1643526160012.jpg (1434x1076, 126.3K)

Yeah this year's new years thread was a cluster fuck but it was a lot of fun.

Instead, install lemuroid and play tons of old gems.

Termux is all you need. You can infsct replace most apps with termux. So far I use termux to
- Download torrents
- Download anime/manga from sites
- Convert between media files
- Merge media files
- Create PDFs
- Download youtube videos
And many more.

Tachiyomi seems to be abandoned.

why would you think that?
last commit was yesterday

Try TachiyomiSY instead, it brings several features from other forks on a neat package tachiyomi.org/forks/TachiyomiSY/

add the izzyondroid repo
or

Fuck off stupid pseudointellectual, I'll do what I please with my time

Termux is great but ultimately doomed. Recent Android SDK changes are restricting apps from being able to ship more than one executable. Right now their workaround is continuing to target an older API version.

add bromite's F-Droid repo or just use FFUpdater to install bromite desu

like a charm but better, that is if you don't update to android 12, even 11 has a few problems, it's otherwise the best app ever made.

i use quillnote and works great.

you can tell your employer you convinced them, now go and take the day off.

captcha:GKN0W

every app is developed by random unknow people.

has anyone there tried Termux:GUI? every time i try installing it it says failed to install due to an unknown error, its the coolest sounding app ive seen after termux and i really want to check it out.

What's the replacement for lightning browser these days? It spits out a lot of invalid certificate errors and after a year or two of that shit and having tried a ton of different "solutions", I'm about ready to move on.
No I don't want a bloaty browser like firefox. Anything on webview is fine.
