The father's behavior can also be explained in evolutionary terms. He wants to protect his genetic interests, and doesn't want his daughter to mate with a low quality male. He has successfully protected his daughter from low quality genes and now she will have a chance to mate with a high quality male and his grandchildren will be more likely to survive. He wont be burdened with little sigma male grandsons but instead can have chads carrying on his line.

in terms of the law the guy shot a little soon he should have waited until he stepped foot in the home, he'll most likely get a murder charge as well as some sort of reckless endangerment charge assuming the front door has no clear windows.
