Absolutely true. Negative thinking is mental laziness and has effects similar to physical laziness. You're basically giving up to take the easy route of minimal effort, minimal accountability. Just as abandoning your workouts yields a diminished ability to perform physically, not thinking proactively and maintaining mental fortitude when challenged diminishes your brain's ability to function. You get used to abandoning thought and going with whatever seems easiest at the moment.

You are allowed all emotions, but focusing on negative emotions stuts your brain's ability to retain information (neutral information) and the ability to remember the good times (positive information).

You focus on self-pity and the doomer midset makes you specialise in negative emotions. Your question proves this; instead of thinking "i better start focusing on the positive sides of things" you think "this sucks, I'm not even allowed to do the one thing I usually do"

How is thinking about problems negative thinking? Wasting all your time shitposting about problems on a message board is negative, sure, but simply experiencing the world consciously is different than winging on the internet.

The past couple dozen threads are proof enough ignoring the psych aspect. If you're constantly being a doomer you can't really think of solutions or even conversate without going in a downward, self-affirming spiral. And from what I see only using the negative parts of your mind atrophies the other parts, and vis versa with using only the positive.

Honestly I believe this. My dad has dementia, and while he was rarely a negative thinker, his wife (my mom) is very careless with her speech. And now she's starting to lose it too. Sad

What are they counting as negative thinking specifically? Is it thinking things cannot be changed (defeatism)? Is it thinking that regardless of change it doesnt matter anyway (nihilism)? Is it arguing against an argument (arguing the nul hypothesis)? Or is it saying things currently are bad and trying to change them?
