Why are modern devs so incompetent when it comes to file sizes? Booted up my PS5 for the first time in a week and it has a 150GB of updates queued up.

Fuck this shit.

Because (You) keep buying games that do that shit

Modern hardware spoils them. It's also why modern games are so horribly unoptimized in performance too.

Do you want games that release in 2 - 4 years, or 5 - 9 years?

The latter

i want to make a game like fallout mixed dying light with cartoonier graphics and shittier textures so it can fit under 100gbs and work for weaker computers/laptops.

i'd rather them not release games at all if they're going to take 100+gb of storage for some shitty 6 hour linear shooter that plays identically to one i've played a decade and a half ago

Game file sizes really went out of control during these past few years for no reason because is not like games and graphics have progressed that much either. Just look at the new Pokemon game. There are GameCube games that look way better than that shit and used less than 2 Gigs. And Call of Duty, is not like like the games are any bigger than they were before either, yet each game require like 100 Gigs for who knows what.

Not necessarily worse graphics, but definitely shorter. Think of what a game could look and play like if it stuck to the PS2 standard of 3 to 15 hours. Imagine all that development effort dedicated to making two years worth of cOnTeNt condensed into one weekend game.

>Please remake the game and cut out 30% of the story.

Modern remakes
Play once, never play again, maybe multiplayer or a secondary gamemode won't make me uninstall it as fast

>Game doesn't come with a map editor/simple tools to extend its shelf life

Into the trash

Original
Replay 9000 times because its fun, game has been reverse engineered to hell and back so there are mods you can play

Because none of the big 3 sets strict file size limits so that devs don't capitalize on all of the space. They don't care about optimizing.

More time won't solve the problem. Latest Battlefield clearly showcased that.
Publishers cut costs and drive out everyone able to do things right, replacing them with cheap pajeet freelancers, diversity hires and e-celebs. Quick hype cashgrabs are now a priority.

Stop buying garbage.

It's not incompetency, it's deliberate malice.
If you install the 100+ GB or so you need for Call of Duty to run multiplayer for the latest title, plus installing Modern Warfare for the sake of Warzone, that's less space for you to install a competing game like Battlefield, Halo, Fortnite, Apex Legends, etc. (Although Halo isn't exactly going to be a competing franchise in the future).

Did read someone compression PS5 disc or something?

Modern dev retard

Modern game devs are lazy and stupid and not really interested or passionate about video games the same way boomers were.

Funfact: someone on the team of Angel Studios who ported RE2 for N64 had a real thing for Claire it seems because her character model is the least changed/downgraded of them all, but someone also added certain N64 unique features to her model's movement. They changed the way Claire's upper torso holds itself and rotates to her hips as she walks and runs creating an effect that her chest sticks out more and that her breasts seem to sway more as she runs. Someone on the N64 wanted to accentuate Claire's bust to the player.

Oh cool. Does Leon butt improved?

You describe CPR.

Only his textures changed, but they changed a lot.

>none of the big 3
Nintendo still works great with weak hardware, Gamefreak is not Nintendo

Devs too cheap for professional software like Oodle RAD

I want games that release when they're finished

sacrifice the development budget on graphics or gameplay/bugfixes/game duration.

>Have really nice looking game - it's linear, it's short, if its not good then you might ignore the sequels unless you are a lore junkie/story is good. Good graphics can distract players from crappy gameplay, and are the only quality thing in sloggy lootbox anchored game modes.
>Have ugly looking game - can be very long because a zillion quests, open world stuff leaves exploration to the player weird easter eggs/oddities to find and think about (fans will think about them way after they stop playing), unresolved plots/conspiracies make you want more
