Anything not on the reserve list is not investment grade but I've made a killing off APAC lands.
Is the buying cards to get rich meme this generation's equivalent of the eating Subway sandwiches to get a supermodel body meme?
Loving it when these threads pop up
I trust my card collection as the majority of my retirement fund
Collectables have decent returns, the skill is in ignoring the shite out there and purchasing items that will be valuable in 15 years time.
Top end mtg stuff will survive the coming recession and bounce to new highs. Mid end mtg stuff not so much. Your modern staples are not investment grade, dual lands and power 9 are.
old border foils are pretty solid, like a secondary, more affordable reserve list
Add in sealed product as well. For killer modern sets like War of The Spark, those boxes will easily be a couple hundred in a few years.
Oh yeah nice one user, some of those masques foils look great and are v sought after (pic attached)
Depends on storage costs but aye. I worry every store and their nan are planning this and there's a ton of recent sealed product off the market but intending to be sold at some point.
If we are now getting trading card threads on Any Forums this has to be the top of some bubble right?
Stores don't have money to be able to hoard sets. Most are running on 5% or less margins on sealed product. Holding it hurts them so much. That isn't to say there isn't sealed product out there or people hoarding it, but I don't think it matters as much as you think. An odd case or two of a set doesn't affect the market too much for staple sets. IMO Kamigawa is the best modern set right now, but I'm still buying a box or two of War every month. Under $150 is a steal.
I scooped up a couple dozen WAR boxes off Fireball a year or so ago, so that'd be nice. I also picked up some NPH around $600 with the intention of opening it for fun and am now reconsidering. Don't know what's happening there.
Trading cards are physical traditional NFTs that serve as an alternate currency. I get to appriciate my alternate currency by flipping through my card binders, my graded cards, looking over my silver stack. I enjoy these items more than numbers on a screen, and I also know 50% of all collectors are literal zealots who will never sell because the items are associated with priceless nostalgic memories.
Under 150 seems cheap. I have a box of war gathering dust somewhere.
You're right about stores but I still think there's a lot of autists out there. Also any set with masterpieces should have above average returns. I'd probably even include strixhaven in this despite them being 1 per pack. Decent EV and decent reason to crack, shrinking the supply of sealed boxes.
Worst case WAR is one of the most fun draft sets / sets to crack. Also it and Core2020 being the last "normal" sets before Collectors boxes I think matters a ton.
Strixxhaven is a great set. I've also been scooping up cheap CBs. I personally like to scoop drafts, but $130 CBs for shitty sets is still a great deal for the long game.
Is it safu to start slurping the dip on PSA graded cards? Pic related is a vintage 1st edition common that I like to collect. My only concern is that it's common as fuck, with 2000+ PSA 10s in existence. At the same time, I have no reason to believe it won't pump again once the bull market returns. Thoughts?
Relatively I'd say. The market has been leveled for a few months now. If you lose $10 on a slab who cares. Time to start slurping for the next bull market.
Yeah, im slurping. its too good to pass up. if it keeps dipping a bit more, ill just keep buying and lower my cost basis. Btw, card in question is Jungle pikachu 1st edition. Yeah, it is common as fuck, but at the end of the day its a relic from 1999, so i doubt there are a bunch more 10s out there, unless people start cracking open $10,000 booster boxes lol...Am I right?
Also, where my Metazoo bros at?
>hoarding bulk for years
>sudden surge in an uncommon from rixalan
love when this happens
>Kamigawa
Unironically an amazing set. You could probably crack boxes for a profit at this point.
