he narrative blasted across MSM today was that Russia suffered grievous tank losses in the recent offensive, with particular attention paid to the 4th Tank Division. All of them made the claim that this division, which according to them is Russia's "primary anti-NATO force" (whatever that means), was nearly destroyed. I was confused by this, so I went digging. Progress was slow since MSM hates to give sources (in classic FOX fashion, their article linked to a different FOX article that also didn't contain sources), but I finally found a Forbes article with a link:
They claim in this article that the 4th Guards Tank Division suffered 100 tanks destroyed or captured in 100 hours, which is a snappy title but also means that they would've lost half the entire division. Who do they source for this? Of course, it's a Twitter post: twitter.com/RALee85/status/1569655969814298630. Right off the bat, the post only give the number "93" for the TOTAL number of T-80U tanks in the division and claims that they lost half of a regiment. The entire basis for the MSM narrative falls apart already, but then there's the fact that the Twitter user is misinterpreting his own source. That source is Attack on Europe, and the infographic he cites shows 88 Russian T-80Us lost for the ENTIRE invasion, not for the single offensive.

And the ultimate kicker is that Attack on Europe is, of course, Attack on Europe. Their tracking consists entirely of pictures of destroyed vehicles with a date slapped on. It's therefore impossible to find their sources and thus very difficult to find duplicates where allegedly multiple destroyed vehicles are just one from multiple angles or Ukrainian casualties misidentified as Russian. You thus have to trust that they're sufficiently competent unless you want to wade through thousands of pictures, and I don't. The first time I visited their site, it took the third picture I clicked on to see them post destroyed Ukrainian vehicles from a strike on Kiev and claim them as destroyed Russian rocket artillery. This was the famous "cock and ball" explosion. Between that and the fact that they claim to show over 6,000 destroyed Russian armored vehicles while only showing 1,500 destroyed armored vehicles for Ukraine, there's little reason to trust them.
