Socialism/gommunism were demonized during the cold war, and it feels like they just become more and more accepted by the mainstream as time goes on. Of course, many people, especially older people, will have hyper critical views on these things, often carried over from cold-war hatred of the Soviets. I feel like the overton winton on views towards the term socialism have been shifted far more to the favor of socialism in recent years, in part due to less of the population having been around during the cold war and in part due to politicans like Bernie who call themselves socialists openly. I dunno how much the GOP outlets really shift the overton window back as much as resist the ongoing change in public opinion and cater to an older audience that still feel that way.
