Why isn't anime taken more seriously as an artistic meduim? For how many masterpieces this meduim has, very few is written about it and there is no serious academic scene. Anime as whole still occupys an entertainemnt niche.
I supose 100 years from now people will see the error of their judgement and films like the End of Evangelion will be remembered and analyzed in the same vein as Bergmann or Orson Wells but it's wierd how much time it takes.
It does. Have you not seen the cons? Have you not seen all the other countries copying the medium? Anime is well known now. Everyone watches it or if they don't they have a life worth living.

It is not really well done nor well written in comparison to live action work, but it is the most respected "geek" medium out there. Stunt choreogrophers, film directors, animators, and VFX artists take inspiration from it.

Early breakout films (Akira, GiTS, etc) were taken very seriously from even normal film critics. I don't know about shows though.

It's about as serious and artistic as MCU. The rare "artful" movie is hated for being pseudointellectual and entry level by weebs, and it doesn't compare with great works of art in basically any way. It's more like a B-movie that is uncharacteristically thoughtful, like Sam Fuller's movies, than the medium defining masterpieces like Schindler's List, Shawshank Redemption or The Dark Knight.
Parker Edwards
Some of Ghibli isn't artfag shit. It's basically on the level of fables and family entertainment, but still widely respected too. Yet still taken more seriously than an MCU or Disney animated film at the same time. It's just shows that largely get ignored except by fandoms.

>Why isn't anime taken more seriously as an artistic meduim? Because Evangelion single-handedly set it back 100 years.

>medium defining masterpieces like Schindler's List, Shawshank Redemption or The Dark Knight What the fuck are you from Any Forums or [s4s]
Jason Green
why would you want it to be?

>Why isn't anime taken more seriously as an artistic meduim? Have you seen 80% of what is produced as mainstream anime?
>Schindler's List Barefoot gen, Grave of the fireflies >Shawshank Redemption World master piece series? >The Dark Knight Naw. You need to try harder on that one
Jose Howard
>why isn't [insert medium here] taken more serious as an artistic medium? because the artistic medium doesn't matter, what matters most are the masterpieces made on that medium next question
Jordan Cooper
It's taken more seriously than most animation. The thing is all animated mediums aren't very respected. You have some high budget standouts and that's it.

Maybe because they keep releasing shit that's extremely hard to take seriously as art?
