People always complain about bland MCs but why is it encouraged for female characters to be as bland as possible? The most boring robotic girl often wins both the MCbowl and the popularity polls, pushed as the most "moral" choice but if the character was a male you would think they're utter trash.
There's always some preachy Japanese traditionalist morals about how the incredibly bland, cold yamato nadeshiko Japbot is the only proper kind of character, where all the other girls are mere foils portrayed as worthless trash whores and are character assassinated to make some kind of point for the slightest misstep, for the slightest deviance in aesthetic or behavior.

Because personalities are scary. You give your character a real personality and you run the risk of alienating some portion of the audience.

Girls just have to be cute

What the fuck are you saying?

That the female equivalents of generic male MCs are not as hated.

Yeah, is almost as if the majority of anime fans are male and straight people are still the vast, vast majority of the world's population. Weird.

There isn't really a standard for females. There's overdone tropes like the Nadeshiko, the tundere, the genki girl, the lovable airhead, the kuudere, and so on. But that's the point. There's dozens of tropes. Women in anime have far more variety. While most men have the same 5-6 personality types. The stoic guy, the shy guy, the everyman, the handsome perfect guy, the 'bad boy' (who's just the handsome perfect guy with a chip on his shoulder) and the clown.

And the love interest is almost always the handsome, bad boy or everyman. So yes, they are overused. But not really comparable to female characters who have a lot more variety.

You really just copy and pasted your last rant

I remember Lavender doing a video about giving some variety to these guys, it was quite funny, not just because she is offering a girl's perspective on animu MCs (something targeted to male audience) but because she actually tried to visually reflect the backstory of these guys:

If anything else it was worth a nice chuckle seeing Kirito being turned into a human version of Shadow the Edgehog.

Nobody has any expectations from females, duh.

they have VAs who can pull it off

How would you guys fix current male MCs? What examples should future authors follow?

Schwa-kun didn't do anything wrong.

The problem is that the loser MCs sell more anime. You would have to fix the entire population to fix the MCs.

I wouldn't. I'd realize 90% of all MCs, like anything else, are bad. You just need to find the 10% of good ones. The ones that break the trope or do something unique.

I think you overestimate how hated the bland MC is. We complain about them, sure but we'll also complain about the bland heroine too.

Both are correct.

The girl who doesn't even talk is a pretty popular character type. It's definitely a double standard, and that's perfectly fine and normal.
Only faggots try to treat men the same way the treat women.

if this is true the eva girls wouldn't be popular for almost thirty years

When did you figure out that you have been watching the Japanese equivalent of an Adam Sandler film?

Kek, no. There's not constant variants of charts like this where each character have dedicated hate threads/mobs for them.
