The Vertical World is a criminally underrated manga

A boisterous adventure set in a unique fantastical setting. Great world-building, and likable characters. Has a decent ending and can be all read on the manga plus website.

Post first chapter bro

Discovering right now. Cool concept.

I remember reading this and Summer Time Render back in Mangaplus’ early days. Good stuff.

I can't believe there were people on Any Forums besides me that read this, it never gets discussed. Hell, looking at the number of people in this thread and the time of day, I'll doubt we'll get much discussion though. In any case, imo the vertical world has a really strong opening, I remember being really intrigued by the mystery of what this world was and how it functioned. Honestly, I found the answers to many of these questions to be less than satisfying (the internal logic seems quite questionable, but what do you expect when you include black holes, simulated worlds, and time travel), but what I found more interesting is how those answers weren't the be all end all and were further incorporated and built upon within the story, especially during the climax. I liked a lot of the characters and was pretty satisfied with many of the arcs, though some of the characters' stories were especially tragic and it didn't always feel like there was proper recompense for those crimes. Well, it's not like a story HAS to do that, but some of those story lines were pretty brutal.

As for the characters, I really liked most of them. I liked that every character felt useful, it didn't feel like the MC was the only active person. At times it did feel like this went to such an extent that the MC role was temporarily transferred to another person, but I don't think that's a negative per se. I think the ending was nice, though again, the logic is a bit flawed. If I'm not mistaken, one of the central conflicts of the story that gets introduced doesn't really get solved, which seems to leave things on a melancholic note. I am referring to the fact that Ruska's OG universe is supposedly ending or running out of energy and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Yeah this was something you read to see how batshit insane the plot and scope of the world building could get rather than for something with sound internal logic.
I don’t remember all the details of the ending but it involved a universe where nothing bad ever happened and another where the adventure continued for our heroes.
