most productions hit schedule issues around ep 7/8 because they've run out of buffer episodes completed before the season started and it's the first point where they have multiple episodes with approaching deadlines. up until that point they've had breathing room, but after it there's really no time to check carefully and fix mistakes. the more you try to force high quality by overloading your animation team or working more animation directors the more you're in danger of a complete production breakdown as your team becomes harder to organize on top of your existing schedule problems.

They understood weeb psychology. Just put amazing first episode followed by a couple of decent episodes, and now you've hooked the viewers into watching it until the end, especially if they're bingeing on demand. Doesn't matter if it's shit like in the latter half or something because by that time it doesn't matter anymore.
