To me it seemed to be the most basic "save the future" time travel story except it's a chuunibyou guy pretending to be a scientist trying to both save the smart and the cute girl.

I never thought much of it. I think it was a lot of teems' first taste of something akin to hard sci-fi, especially somewhat deep time travel story and it had the added effect that it tied into a irl interesting mystery/urban legend of John Titor.

I wouldn't say the stuff Ito does needs great characters
