I’m going to be dumping a chapter of Otherside Picnic aka lesbian S.T.A.L.K.E.R. every day
Please be mindful of spoilers and use black bars for talking about anything past the manga. Part of the point of a storytime thread is to give people a chance to read something for the first time and it can be alienating to come in and see people talking freely about stuff that’s still far in the future
> Elevator Pitch Sometimes you’re a misanthropic nerd with an encyclopedic knowledge of ghost stories and the girl you like is a beautiful gunslinger obsessed with finding a missing woman you’re 90% sure was pure evil and the two of you hunt creepypasta monsters as a hobby
> How Long Is It? There are seven novels so far. J-Novel Club has licensed and translated the first six and is working on the seventh. The manga is currently 45 chapters long and is near the end of the second novel. There’s also an anime but it was horrible and we don’t talk about it
> Where Can I Get It? If you'd like to go read the story on your own you can find the scans on mangadex. The officially translated novels and first volume of the manga are on nyaa if you want to pirate them or if you want to support the author you can buy them from a variety of vendors. J-Novel Club (the translator) has a page listing the options here j-novel.club/series/otherside-picnic. There are also physical copies available if you prefer
There's nothing quite like the physical intimacy of getting super fucked up by a sanity bending otherworldly horror and leaning on each other for support. You can totally see why Sorawo and Toriko have gotten so close so quickly
That's the end of the Kisaragi Station arc but I'm not done for the day. As supplemental material I'll be dumping the novel version of the kunekune arc. If you're not interested in the prose version or you don't want to read a story you've already seen in manga form a second time feel free to check out but if not stick around for it
I kind of love Toriko's willingness to just try stuff like this. She has no idea what she's doing or whether it will work but she's going to throw rock salt at the problem because it's not like it could make things worse so she might as well try
Grandpa with one leg was one of the real horror beats of the station myth, iirc. I remember reading the story after this was featured in anime.
Thomas Rodriguez
I think she'd be too scared to do anything more than give it to DS.
Noah Hill
Ooh. I haven't actually tracked down any of the source material these are referencing yet but I've been meaning to. Though I imagine very little of it is available in english
I actually found a translation with little googling. Don't know about the site itself but the translation seems legit. It's pretty neat urban myth.
Isaac Wright
It's kind of funny to think that the name of the series "uraseki" is just an arbitrary name Sorawo came up with herself. The english translation "otherside" is again an arbitrary term the soldiers picked
This >clearly autistic >angry for no reason at all >hates people and finds women threatening >would probably rather be home and watch anime Literally me
And that's the end of file 1! Did you enjoy the novel version? I'm not going to be doing these every day but I'll dump one occasionally until we catch up. I'll be back tomorrow with chapter 14 of the manga and the start of a new arc
I love Sorawo's expression in that art. The way she's pulling herself into Toriko's back super close but looking off to the side and scowling. She seems so vulnerable
Dominic Diaz
>Oh hey. She's a better person than I thought. I love how Sorawo can be such a bitch sometimes.
Alexander Sanders
>She seems so vulnerable More like possessive. Possessive and ANGRY.
Charles Barnes
She's got a face like Toriko is mine and I don't want to share her but also I want her to spoil me right now
Colton Powell
Up to some monkey business
Christian Morris
I wonder what anime greg watches
Carson Campbell
Probably /ak/ shit like Upotte.
Robert Rogers
Maybe he likes Rifle is Beautiful too
Grayson Clark
He seems like an ass so probably some shonen of the month like SnK
I kind of thought it was like she's scanning for Satsuki Uruma. She says eventually that since the beach, Satsuki had been following them, on the otherside and the overworld. Something like that, I might be misremembering, but it's something like that.
Juan Stewart
I was gonna post another image alongside that, but I forgot.
This happened in the between place right? Feels like shits are more physical in that place compare to Otherside. The cats were also not joking iirc
Camden Watson
So she recorded it despite getting scared?
Adam Robinson
Kozakura seems like the kind of person who records all of her phonecalls
Jose Williams
I found most of the stories over at kowabana.net/ but this site is the one I read Monkey Dream at sayainunderworld.blogspot.com/2008/08/monkey-dream.html Seems the otherside made a little mistake since 'monkey' is only used as a descriptive for the train and the murders are carried out by little midget guys.
Josiah Ross
She probably records herself and then speedrun at the footage just to be sure.
Josiah Powell
And the novel makes it even clearer than the manga: as soon as Sorawo says "Satsuki" something hit the door.
Lucas Gutierrez
Wow, so Satsuki really was following them as soon as they met. I didn't read the novel for that part, so I didn't catch that.
Ryan Myers
Woah, so we're actually doing the novel now too?
Samuel Moore
If you guys really want to know It's future Sorawo looking at the keyhole with her blue eye
I love the chuuni blue fire coming off her eye. Imagine if it just did that all the time and she couldn't control it
Elijah Hall
Are you >blonde >tall >canadian >autistic >hot >female ?
Zachary Howard
Yeah! My plan is to continue with the novels after we catch up with the manga since there are another 5 books of story that haven't been drawn yet. I'll be dumping the earlier novels that the manga covers in tandem with the manga chapters so that when we hit the end of the manga we can just seamlessly transition to book 3 instead of having to go back to the beginning and start over
Thomas Moore
None of the above!
Hunter Lee
When does vol 7 releases in english?
Jackson Evans
Seeing as it's an otherside entity I think it's irrelevant. But if that happened to Sorawo, then she might just wear an eye patch normally.
Dylan Butler
We don't have a date yet :(
Lincoln Allen
I think you may lack... ALL the requirements to sex any Sorawo.
Lincoln Robinson
Lazy translator
Kayden Wood
I'm pretty sure it's not translation that's taking a long time, it's licensing issues. J-Novel Club has to newly license each book that comes out and legal stuff can take a while (this is why books 5 and 6 were delayed for ages and then got translated back to back)
Dominic Phillips
But what about the doppelganger Sorawo...
Colton Ward
evil Sorawo is all the requirements above PLUS evil.
Lol, how is Toriko even supporting Sorawo like this.
Angel King
How is Sorawo even holding the gun like that? There's no way she's strong enough to hold something that long out and aim with it
Jayden Morgan
That's just the anime being retarded. While the M14EBR is most definitely long and heavy as fuck, it's not as ridiculous long as seen here. That thing looks taller than Toriko for that matter.
Also once again proving how bullshit it is that Toriko's mom was JTF2 considering how little effort she did to teach Sorawo about shooting and firearm handling. Not saying because her mom is SF she should be of equivalent skills, but Jesus Christ, at least in the states she could've taken her kid to the range a few times and had her grow up shooting properly.
David Ross
The wikipedia page for the gun has some photos of real people using it. Wow the anime fucked up
it's funny how they both tried and then didn't try in certain aspects in the anime. For being such an important action shot, they gave zero fucks at all about the hand guard and the barrel and gas tube, but it looks even mores like poorly drawn legos than it does IRL. For a series that has its own share of firearms and such, they kinda half assed it a lot. But the Marines I recall weren't so bad in the depiction of their gear, all things considered.
James Carter
No wonder all the soldiers seemed to be going crazy. That would be one hell of a ride if the monkeys decided to stop at the station and take some tourists. Also I hate monkeys now
Nathan Harris
Imagine seeing your own friends and civilians getting butchered and eaten by Monkeys everyday
Caleb Jones
Imagine going crazy and not even noticing. I think someone once complained about how the girls strolled through the Otherside like they were on a picnic and then came back in one piece so there were no stakes, but as the novels progress one notices that it is taking a visible toll on their sanity, which I say is even creepier than most physical damage.
