So why aren't the lightasbers cutting through shit?
I just watched Obi attacking Stormtroopers and instead of slicing through them, his lightsaber bounces off of them. Sure they still die but wtf is that

From a ratings perspective, dismembering droids is fine, but you're only aloud so many dismembered living beings before they start ticking up to pg13 or R.

There's barely any gashes on the armor either.

You will recall that most of Samurai Jack's enemies were robots. Same reason.

At some points in the series, his lightsaber functions exactly as you'd expect, but at other times it seems like it isn't working fully. Obi-wan was considered one of the best Jedi duelists (specifically in the Soresu form) of ALL time. He was trying to avoid killing or brutally murdering people, not to mention he was probably a bit rusty. Disney gains nothing by making lightsabers inconsistent across the movies, the Mandalorian/Book of Booba, and then finally Kenobi so it is unlikely they were trying to PGify it.

tl;dr - he's basically the best lightsaber duelist of all time and has such mastery that he chooses to inflict smaller strikes by his own will.

Yeah Obi at the time of Order 66 is one of the greatest duelists in the order. THE Master of Soresu, Form III.
Just like how Dooku was THE master of Form II, Makashi.

Plus he seems rusty at times when fighting, which makes sense.
