i don't think so chef. when i was in there most americans were doing english teaching jobs for peanuts and when you looked at them in their eyes you could see how much they wanted to die. there are, however, specialists that work in american/euro companies that get paid in american/euro salaries. these people have the easiest i would assume since working in japanese companies as a foreigner is a nightmare even if you get fat bucks. all in all, how much you earn is not the main factor that dictates how much you will enjoy living in japan.

I feel like expats who work for western companies (i.e. patio11 at Stripe) have very good lives. They reap the benefits of living in japan while working for a western company with western work culture and salary.
In addition, I think the Google office, like where moot works, is a very nice place to work.
