Watched it yesterday and laughed through the entire last half hour. It's comedic Gold

What went wrong? Most of Lynch's kinos are based, but Dune just falls apart for me. The special effects are bad even for its day, the acting is terrible and the dialogue flows even less naturally than the book's does.

Yes, but it's also insane, weird, and awesome.

Lynch ‘Dune’ is Kino.
Yes, the plot is hard to understand, but that is typical when you try to adapt a 700 page book into a two or three hour movie.
Some of the special effects also look a bit imperfect.
That said, there are numerous scenes and images that have become iconic.
Paul and the Freemen Riding the worms.
The worms emerging from the sand.
The Harkonnens, including Sting and the Barron.
The costumes.
The spice guild.
Etc. Etc. Etc.
The soundtrack is also iconic.

For as problematic a movie as it is, it will likely still be remembered 100 years from now, like ‘Haxan…’ which had a way shittier plot, or the original silent ‘Ben Hur’.
