Large majority of european movies are shitty comedies that would make the Adam Sandler's ones look like Monty Python in comparison, but you don't see these kind of movies overseas because they're generally destined for the internal market and with internal market I mean each country, not Europe as a whole, they're easy to produce and make money fast.
There are few notable exceptions but still.
I've always found hilarious how americans think that European cinema is basically composed by various Truffaut and Fellini. It's not.

German film industry was peak European kino. Then the war happened and the Jews fled to America and invented Hollywood.

The UK has a pretty big film industry and they produce a lot more than just arty stuff, plenty of Hollywood crap gets made at Pinewood too. But they're not EU anymore so maybe they don't count.

They watch a lot of American movies here. If a movie is made in another European country they might watch it elsewhere but it will primarily be for the country in whose language it is, limiting its audience
