The show was better with the first assistant/nurse who didn't put up with Monk's shit so much that he became like a cartoon character.

every episode straddles this interesting line of being a comedy about this guy's mental illness while also portraying horrible murders in the most saccharine manner possible

Sharona was funnier. She was a more entertaining character, she had sass and fought back against monk's unreasonable requests instead of submissively going along with it

The episode where monk and sharona have to pretend to be married is one of the funniest of the show
