Why does the US not have high speed railways between the West and East coast?
I think that would be convenient

they're trainlet

sounds communist

Why do you think it would be convenient? Explain your reasoning

the """greatest generation""" allowed the automobile industry to bribe government officials and buy public transportation companies just to fold them.

HSR is unironically worse than flying for that long of a distance.

A nonstop flight from NYC to LA is about 6 hours and 130 dollars. Even the fastest train would be like 20 hours and a couple hundred.

The question is why we don't have HSR in between DC and NYC, and the answer is because congress is incompetent.

There is no demand for it.

Rich people wouldn't use it and the government only does things that help rich people

Poor people are better off taking a plane. You should think harder before making a post. Retards like you lower the quality of the board.

The planned Beijing - Shanghai HSR is set to have a lower travel time than by airplane

Rich people would disproportionately benefit from HSR. It's not like it's poor people who need to travel from city to city

Because there are no large cities in the middle of the US that would connect both the coasts.
Also if you look this up you would notice one thing: population density. Most high speed railways are located in western europe, which is overcrowded as fuck. You simply cannot drive 2km without seeing a building or accidentally entering some town

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_high-speed_railway_lines

This explains why there are no HSRs in Canada, Australia, Russia, USA, etc. It's just not profitable and will never be. Flights are cheaper and faster

It's really far and there's not much in between. Houston and Chicago are the only real cities in the deep interior and they're far apart from each other and the coasts

because we don't have any other choice now, idiot.

>we don't have any other choice now
You can always take an amtrak from NYC to LA that would cost you $3k lmao

damn what is tibet railways

This

The US would greatly benefit from a few systems in the east coast like Boston-NY and shit like that. No one needs a high speed line longer than 500km

America has car autism, and planes cover the rest

Not for the auto lobby

HSR would compete with airlines, not cars. People aren't gonna stop buying cars if HSR is available, especially since we need cars for daily commute
