I've never actually thought of this before, it's an interesting question though. There's certainly a long history of slavic breakaway states that don't really make much sense. What are they afraid of? I dunno. Methinks it's disputes between larger neighbors. East Slavs were easier to get rolled over by Russia since it was a superpower giant, South Slavs had a long and complicated history of many powers, from Byzantines to Ottomans to Nazis to Yugoslavia, which then fell apart because nationalism in the larger countries couldn't keep it together.
But that's just my guess

subcarpathia was stolen by russia and given to ukraine (muh ukrainians want it) despite majority of people there wanted willingly made czech/slovak language mandatory in school, and huge investitions into rural and poor region
