Why was Crystal Dynamics Avengers such a failure?

Why was Crystal Dynamics Avengers such a failure?

It was a bad game that didn't work well and didn't appeal to fans of the comics or movies.

completely soulless and couldn't have been more of an ass kissing to the MCU if they hadn't tried. Usually people don't like to see advertising of movies in their games and would prefer to have an original take of characters, costumes, stories, personalities, etc. like in Sony's SPider-Man.

Started as a single player game and was forced to become a microtransaction heavy live service game that needed at least another year to finish. Guardians of the Galaxy is what it should've been like.

...

Bad art direction that aped the soulless MCU look way too closely but couldn't even get that down. But more importantly, they put too much effort in trying to chase the Destiny audience, I guess maybe because SE spent so much money getting the license.

>make a game that's clearly intended to draw in fans of the MCU
>but don't make any of the Avengers look like their MCU counterparts
???

D*sney media is always bad and this one didn't have the star power or marketing push to make up for it

Eidos made a perfectly good Guardians of the Galaxy game immediately after this. It's got fuck all to do with Disney and everything to do with Square-Enix tearing shit apart to force in their games as a service shit.

this guy is right.

those skins came a year later.

don't forget since it's been out it had its gear system changed so much none of it fucking makes sense anymore unless you buy more of the fake currency that needs real money.

>like in Sony's SPider-Man
Oh, you mean the same game that got a complete cosmetic overhaul for the re-release that made Peter look like Tom Holland?

lmao, just for reference for people who haven't played it, this is the cosmetics store that's run by Chastity McBryde, the 10/10 bombshell secret agent from Elektra Assassin.

Why don't Western devs put any emphasis on making good-looking characters? I don't really even mean shit like Team Ninja where all the girls look like a porcelain sex doll, even in something more grounded like RE they make an effort to make the characters attractive.

the game is everything wrong with modern vidya character designs and too much reliance on mocap/face scanning is ruining the art direction of so many new games.

They look like those volunteers who dress up as superheroes and go visit sick kids at Ronald McDonald House.

Oh, you mean the change people notoriously hate?

playing as kamala was kinda fun though

You mean Fingoria?

because Crystal Dynamics isn't a good developer
they only know how to make overproduced soulless trash

>team making the Deus Ex sequel gets forced into making Avengers
>Disney execs hovering over devs shoulders
>game is buggy and not fun
>intense repetition and grind for simple cosmetics
And Arkham Knight did it better 4 years earlier
