Nothing can be done about past failure to renew copyright on the name, but Mary and Freddy should have been revived as close as possible to their originals. The Marvels were always less 'serious' than Superman and that was part of their charm.
Introducing an entire spectrum of Shazam Family wannabees was a terrible mistake.
Fawcett tried Lieutenant Marvels and quickly realized it didn't work. I think they only made one more appearance.

When Cap was brought back from suspended animation they got C.C.Beck, his original artist, to draw him. Beck quit within months, disgusted by how far everything had been 'dumbed down'.

Nah, The Marvels were about oddball magical shenanigans (mostly) and Superman was about alien/SCIENCE shenanigans (mostly. But both were classically about silly shenanigans.
There was a bit of overlap in their silly (Supes had silly magic foes, Marvels had silly SCIENCE foes) but overall both were silly as fuck.

Thomas-era is just ok, Since it's not in-continuity it's just an interesting look at what could've been.
Ordway run is great.
Post-Crisis Captain Marvel is generally alright up until Infinite Crisis or around there. Then they didn't know what to do with them and Johns was clearly more interested in writing Black Adam.

They need to let him be the star of his own book and keep the conparisions to Superman to a minimun. Specially because he they can't let Billy beat Superman ever.
Also Freddy and Mary were good enought compliments to him, the idea of introducing more kids doesnt really work.
Lastly use more of his villians, Sivana, Mr. Mind and Black Adam are great they are all they use now.
