Elephants subplot was the weakest out of the group. Felt too similar of a retread to her arc in the first movie and the romance itself feels pretty phoned in.
Johnny had the best, same as the first movie, and seeing the Gorilla gang comeback to support them was really nice.
Porcupine's was good but felt a little undecooked, another 5-10 minutes in the scenes between her and the lion would have helped, but for what it is it hits all the right notes.
Pig moms fear of heights was literally phoned in but she and Gunter are just a fun pair so I honestly can't complain much.
Buster's Goat best friend from the first movie not even getting so much as a mention while his aunt gets screentime is really odd. I can only assume there was some sort of issue with the actor who did him or something? The chameleon granny was great in the movie, every scene she was in was decently funny.
Porsha, Nooshi, and Suki are all nice additions, if there's ever a sequel I hope they get some proper screentime.

I guess my main problem with the sequel is that while it "aims big" (the plot is about making it big in a bigger city, and unlike the first movie, it has a villain who can be described as a big bad), I still couldn't get invested in it all because the movie lacks emotional kind of stakes (also it's a rehash of the first movie, and the trailers spoiled the shit out of the entire thing, also Eddie and Mike, also picrel.)
Sing 1 was all about holding onto your dreams to escape a dreary life and getting recognized by your loved ones, which resonated with me; Sing 2 is about trying to bite off more than you need and impressing some randos, note how the only characters who actually wanted to go to Not Vegas were the koala (who's an ass who learned nothing) and the pig mom, the others were perfectly content with their new comfy lives, they pretty much got roped into it.
I liked most of the new characters (especially Porsha because her arc if you can call it that has the family aspect that I liked from the first movie), but most of them also weren't fleshed out enough, and let's be real, we'll probably never see them again, either because 2ing will be the end of the franchise (apparently, the writer-director already moved onto the next project) or they will be replaced with a new supporting cast.

Yeah, her bf had like zero actual screentime with her, or personality for that matter, he was pretty much just a plot device to teach her how to act, so in a way, this subplot felt like a retread of Rosita's arc from the first movie.

I have the biggest problem with her arc: making her work in a club felt pointless, and no matter how I think about it, her relationship with Clay comes off as romantic, despite this no doubt not being the intention, there's just no other sound explanation for their sudden and excessive closeness. That subplot must have been rewritten and compressed to death until it lost all semblance of logic.

If the 3rd movie gets made and the plot will be indeed about a world tour which sounds likely, they'll need a big-ass budget for a ton of new celebrity VAs, also a world tour movie would give the writer a convenient excuse to put all the non-vital characters from the previous movies on a bus (aka leave them at home and put the leads on the actual bus), the sequel was already overpacked with characters. Most if not all the supporting characters are going to bite it.

Quick rundown on what happens in the movie?

Short and Simple: Nothing really happens that surprises you for 90% of the movie, the finale which was the play is pretty good. like a 5/10, put it on as background noise and go about your day.

His character arc of having lost his wife 15 years ago and with her being his muse and reason to play and make music gone, he doesn't want to do anything but waste away the remaining years of his life in seclusion.

Well he does do the Trump listening pose during the auditions, his hotel is also called Crystal Tower kind of like Trump Tower including all the gold, he even has a daughter who eventually turns against him. I don't think he's supposed to be Trump though, Illumination wouldn't dare get political even if Crystal is supposed to be pre president Trump, they want to be as least offensive as possible to get as much money as possible. Remember when Sing 1 came out and all the sjws thought Johnny and his Gorilla crime family were black because they were Gorillas? Those same sjws got shamed to oblivion for being racist by assuming the Gorillas were analogues of black people, free publicity for Sing.

Which is fine, but him finding the right dance teacher like 5 feet away from the dance studio was rushed. He needed a dance teacher more his speed and he finds one right away. Then in two days he goes from terrible to impressive enough to infuriate the dance teacher enough to ruin his life. Numerous crimes and laws were broken all around by everyone in the film, but that's not what this is about.

>The Wolf guy who runs the plays. Dude is probably the best part of the film, and he clearly has killed people before since he didn't even fucking hesitate with following through on his threat to toss Matthew off the building. Sent his goons to kill him and likely his friends and they didn't hesitate either. So there has probably been quite a number of murders he and his people have done.

>Nick Kroll the other pig, he was there. No character arcs for him at all, he just needed to be the one to pitch the sci-fi opera to get the ball rolling then to play off the other pig lady. He's fine enough but there isn't much of him.

>Chelsea Peretti the I think Collie, not to great on knowing my dogs. So that was a thing. She disappears pretty much after the first act and then comes back at the end. Would have liked more of her following Matthew around as a means for the wolf guy to keep an eye on things.

That pose is just a foward leaning pose. I've done it loads of times when I want to get better details, you are a little closer visually and to the sound, you are less focused on what is around you and really paying attention.

It's just different ways to express body language and neither Trump nor this Wolf are the first to do it. You'll see it a lot from real people and in fiction because it conveys a certain attitude.

I agree they should've had more screen time to set that in stone though, you wouldn't be wrong in seeing their closeness as romantic especially since they don't really bring up age that much in these movies. We know Meena is the youngest in the 1st movie but graduated high school, so we can guess 17 or 18. Ash is living on her own (after kicking Lance out) and Moon says she's a teenager, we can guess she's either 18 if Meena is 17 or 19 if Meena is 18. Johnny is very similar, we can just put his age to being the same as Ash for convenience sake. Clay is definitely in his early 50s, so if you know the ages it would be crazy to ship them romantically, especially since Clay still loves his dead wife Ruby, but you wouldn't be wrong in interpreting that is what's happening with the scenes we were given.

My problem with the scene in the club is that it seemed completely unnecessary, literally no reason for Ash to be there instead of the Moon theater with all her friends. As soon as Moon showed up in the club she ditched that job like a dog at a whistle, I guess the whole point of the scene was the part where she sticks it to the manager for calling her sweetheart and paying her peanuts, but this begs the question why she was working there to begin with.

Seeing this fanart reminds me how Mike could've been in Sing 2 and become friends with Meena. We saw he was amazed at her singing and was cheering her on before he was taken by the bear mafia, but he never had a chance to officially apologize to her. Meena could've met Mike down on his luck in Vegas with Nancy, she tries to talk to him but his pride doesn't allow someone he knows to see him like that. Meena wants to bring him on the show but everyone says no since he was a jerk, Meena sticks to her beliefs and keeps trying to recruit Mike. She talks to him and tells him she forgives him for how he acted, Mike finally breaks down and has an emotional moment with Meena, they officially become friends and Mike joins the show. Darius quits for some diva reason and Meena asks Moon to let Mike replace him, turning the romantic love theme of Meena's part into a platonic friendship love theme. Mike and Meena can then sing a song about friendship, not sure which, but I'll always imagine them singing 'You got a Friend in Me' from Toy Story.

But for all we know Mike is dead, which sucks because all he needed was a cameo or something to show he's alive. Without it the last scene we saw of him was pretty grim, hard to argue that he and Nancy weren't straight up murdered.

Have you anons ever heard of teens running away with each other out of 'love'? I remember that trope being pretty common in pop culture. Since Moon said Ash was a 'teenager', aka not 20s yet but close to it like 18 or 19, I just assumed she ran away from home so her and Lance can live together and follow their dreams of being musicians. Agreed, when Sing 2 was announced I was actually excited since me and the family really enjoyed the 1st one. I was hoping for more interactions with the main group since we wouldn't need a whole 1st act to introduce them, allowing for more character moments. Then they said they were adding more characters, I started to worry since too many new characters means less interactions with the old cast. Even with what we got was fine, but characters like Darius and Alphonso are literally worthless to the wider plot.

Instead of Meena's love plot, it could've been a plot of her sticking to her beliefs even if everyone tells her she's wrong, since she believes that Mike is not a bad person and deserves a chance to show that, he was a big part of why their show was good in the 1st movie with his performance after all. Hell she could've confronted Moon about his actions in front of everyone in the theatre crew, if he gets a free pass for literal crimes then Mike definitely deserves a second chance for being a bit of a jerk. Meena is the heart of the group and a friendship plot with Mike, the one who bullied her but showed remorse at the end even cheering her on during her performance before being kidnapped, would've gone a long way in showing that. Maybe we can get a Blu-ray short with Meena and Mike, but I have my doubts.

Thinking back on it, wouldn't Buster and his crew just welcome him back with open arms? IIRC, they were still cool with Mike when he appeared out of the blue to sing My Way, even after all the shit he pulled, Buster told him that "all is forgiven" and they were all oohing and aahing at his performance even though logically they should be mad, especially Buster, who's beloved theater got pulverized because of Mike's actions. I remember reading in some interview that Mike was meant to be the kind of charismatic jerk common in show business that people put up with because of his enormous talent, so I guess as long as Mike has his beautiful singing voice, they would probably just take him back. That's why Clay's arc about losing one's voice due to emotional trauma and a daughterfu character helping him to get it back was really more befitting of Mike, cause in Mike's case it could also be a humbling experience that would change him into a better person.

This movie was horribly written holy shit, it's not even that Moon uses underhanded tactics, it's that he uses tactics that also implicate everyone in his group in criminal activity. It needed a monty python's holy grail type ending where EVERYONE gets arrested. If Moon WAS a good boss he would do all of the shady shit himself instead of putting everyone in his group in harm's way.

I was honestly surprised when the movie had Jimmy do something semi-realistic having his lawyers contact Calloway's lawyers/reps to see if he'd even heard of Moon. Props to an antagonist for not being a complete sucker for once.

Speaking of the lawyer stuff, the funny thing is that if at the end they played along with Jimmy praising the show it would've been fine because Jimmy would've had a reason to clam up about everything Moon pulled. Arresting Jimmy was the stupidest thing they could've done since now he has every reason to throw all of that at them in court. Even if Jimmy goes down for attempted murder, Moon and most of his troupe goes down for fraud, assault, etc...

To save his own ass (aka his dream/theater), also because he's desperate and delusional as his sheep friend points out. He already owed people a ton of money at the beginning of the movie because he was shit at running his theater (it's not just the bank, over the years he borrowed so much from the father of his NEET friend that he correctly associates Buster meeting with his son with mooching now, the asshole also didn't pay his previous crew), also nah, after the typo debacle instead of coming clean like a reasonable person, he first tried to borrow 100k from his friend's dad despite JUST being told that the dad doesn't want to have anything to do with him anymore, when that didn't work out he was like "meh, it's gonna be alright" and sat there twiddling his thumbs and lying through his teeth for a few days, THEN he found out by accident that he can try to mooch the money off the friend's rich granny instead, yet again using his friend and putting him in an incredibly awkward situation. How any of this makes Buster look good?

He also literally stole a bunch of stuff to wow the friend's nana into giving him the 100k and roped the kids from the competition into helping. This also bit him in the ass when the shit he stole (glass panes and a fuckload of water) and turned into makeshift decorations (what is workplace safety lol) broke because of mafia bears and destroyed his theater and oh yeah, almost fucking killed Nana, Eddie, Ms Crawley, the contestants and an absurd number of fluorescent sapient squids.

He's still a moron who turned his theater into a deathtrap to make it more flashy, a huge-ass makeshift water tank made out of old window panes and filled with living beings sounds anything but safe, and sure enough, that shit cracked and exploded after like a single hit of a baseball bat. He's also indirectly responsible for everything else too: the bear mafia came after Mike because Buster's lies convinced Mike that the prize money is real and attainable so he started spending lavishly, and the reason why the mafia bear hit the stage with the bat was because Buster kept lying through his teeth even in this dire situation that there's 100k inside the chest, no, really, he just forgot the key, so the bear smashed it against the stage to get the money out. It's karma, baby.

Rosita and Gunter gave Mike shit when he came back, Rosita angrily asking him while Gunter glares "What are YOU doing back here?" before he confidently says he's only here to 'show them how it's really done'. Moon told him "all is forgiven" but that doesn't mean everyone agrees, especially people he outright insulted like Ash, Rosita and Gunter. Then again they could just forget all that and accept him back no problem, but that would ruin any possible plot or character development.
