Are any of their records after Songs from The Big Chair worth listening to? I tried listening to The Seeds of Love and it just sounded like bad R&B.

>how did this happen?
it's genuine, not faked.
simple as.

>The Seeds of Love and it just sounded like bad R&B

i kinda liked elemental, a bit

Who created this whole style of sound? Japan, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears etc.

Judging by the singles so far I'd say this one.

youtube.com/watch?v=QzkK3ZtI9SU Are you seriously trying to tell me this doesn't sound like 80s R&B?

Raoul and the Kings of Spain. Love that album.

did you listen to Everybody Loves a Happy Ending?

Roxy Music on Avalon

TOUCH THE HURT AND DON'T LET GO
DON'T LET GO
DON'T LET GO

It was a gradual evolution. You can hear bits and pieces of it in Kraftwerk, Brian Eno's solo stuff, Roxy Music and Berlin era Bowie. Japans a pretty important contributor to that whole sound and image but I also think Ultravox are kind of overlooked as a major contributor. Vienna came out in 1980, two years before Avalon.

these guys are both right, but yeah Avalon was it.
Vienna for sure had the spacious glossiness but it sounded (intentionally) cold, whereas Avalon sounded very sensual and warm.
And that has made all the difference.

Elsewhere:
Often wonder what people think now when they hear Ultravox's New Europeans, given the changes in Europe over the last decade...

On the topic of The Hurting, I love the last two tracks, The Prisoner hit me hard.

KICK OUT THE STYLE BRING BACK THE JAM

yes, but you have an odd view of The Seeds of Love, so who knows if you'l like raoul & the kings of spain, closest thing to heaven, break it down again and so on.
maybe don't drink the water is more your thing?
