Tool got less fun to listen to the longer they went on. Opiate is still the most energetic thing they put out. The drums carry most of their albums.
Thomas Wood

The album that marked Maynard's unfortunate descent into tasteless lyrical grandiloquence
At least the drums are typically excellent

you're saying drums when you should be generalizing to instrumentation. The guitar and bass in most of Tool's work especially 10000 days is high quality
Nolan Cooper

I thought the Drums and Bass in particular were good, perhaps at their peak, on 10,000 days, whereas the guitar was a clear decline following Lateralus.
Funnily enough, I think the exact opposite occurred in their newer album, which is honestly a bit shit all around.
Maynard's lyrics/vocals have just spun further and further down into a spiral of agonisingly clumsy literary metaphor's.
For their age's, Fear Inoculum was pretty decent though.
Mason Wood
>Opiate is still the most energetic thing they put out.
This. And their demo, for which I still have the cassette, but nothing to play it on. The demo version of Sober is still the best.
