I'll give it to them that they got the soft psychedelia down much better than anyone else in the scene, maybe only Sonic Youth or Radiohead could pull off a great dreamy track like Rhinoceros. And a great pop sensibility of course. I'm just being antagonistic for fun, Pumpkins are great but lately revisiting their catalogue I feel like Corgan must have written a lot of the material by riffing off of the same demos/base ideas. So many of the tracks in that era have nearly the exact same phrases, chord progressions, or motifs and it really makes the lesser songs a slog to get through. Maybe I'm nuts but I feel like if you just make slight changes to Today, Disarm and Siva you can arrive at mostly every other Pumpkins song. As far as the material that is very similar to Janes, stuff like Silverfuck and Tristessa yeah it's not close

That's not true at all, in fact many of them have done projects together and covered eachother or cited eachother as influences. Tool state Janes Addiction as a direct influence, recorded with Melvins, and covered Kyuss. RHCP and Janes Addiction comingled to a great extent, Tad and Melvins had a powerful influence on heavy grunge and alt rock. You have a very very narrow sense of genre, probably due to autism or aspergers syndrome. One of the symptoms is an inability to perceive nuances and a strong preference for rigid definitions and systems. Pumpkins when they're playing heavy psychedelic (which is a huge part of their catalog) are not far off sonically from Janes Addiction either. The two or three most popular Jane's Addiction songs sound absolutely nothing like every other Jane's Addiction song.
