You can't make punk music today

You can't make punk music today

Punk music was a movement that happened

You can make punk-inspired music today

It will most likely be trite and boring

It will be like wearing a costume and it will feel fake

same goes for people who claim to be apart of the 'punk' subculture. sure, they may enjoy the music but they're ultimately just trying to emulate the originals in their style and attitude.

Punk music was a reaction against the perceived middle-class appropriation of rock music. Stuff like fucking ELP. Making punk today isn't making something new. Punk today is conservatism.

Modern prog is shit for similar reasons. It's just trying to sound like Genesis and Yes, while those acts tried to incorporate fancy-ass shit into rock. They were doing something new.

Strongly disagree, people like atr and kap bambino go harder. But you can't beat oldschool punk of course.

there hasn't been a good new musical movement since the 90s.

Why do you guys pretend punk is good?

>Punk music was a reaction against the perceived middle-class appropriation of rock music
As Imagine Dragons et al proved that's happened all over again.

Any legit punk matured into post-punk or alternative rock or thrash metal etc. The ones who sounded like teenage garage band for more than a few years were posers.

Scorching take: Punk evolved into things like midigrind and nintendocore, but the energy died* before that general format of making familiar "rock band ensemble" type music in a DAW and twisting it in various ways and making a bunch of new genres really took off the way I hoped it would. This is something like what I think the future of punk should look like, anyway. Not electronic music based on dance music, but electronic music based on rock music. With maximum creativity and messing around allowed, and without the necessity for great or normal production.

* (mainly because myspace died - "scene" pop culture was the last height of permeation of mainstream culture with punkoid culture)

Cool energy

Punk was/is a myth

there is but we can't speak of it outside the containment thread

i am in no way belittling idols and their talents but it's ... not really my thing.

Who is this grandpa?

conservatism is the new punk rock

The youth of today are unironically a bunch of bootlickers authority cravers because they're too anxious to leave the house. Who is going to rebel against their best enabler?

"punk"
>movement claims to be about non conformity and individualism
>all punks think the same and are retarded bleeding heart liberals who wear the same retarded looking mohawk
lol

You can make punk music, but the idea of punk being a movement has long been dead. Though small label and self publishing aspect of it is alive and healthier than ever.

>Punk music was a movement that happened
lol no
it was made to sell

Punk was a fake astroturfed movement by CIA and democrats with a goal to destroy conservatism and turn teens into hedonistic degenerates

who was that daft zoomy cunt a few years ago who said she had "studied punk objectively" and was a self appointed foremost expert?

Wasn't punk a protest against conservatives and the start of anti-Thatcherism?
